I use the Maxxracks and Atera Starda. Both are brilliant, however, the Maxxrack is faster to set up and breaks down to store really easily. If its just me and my wife going out for a ride I'll use the Maxxrack, if we're going on holiday or as a family I'll use the Atera.
QQ Moo - why bother with the Atera Starda if the MaxxRaxx is up to the job carrying up to 5 bikes and the purchase price is less too.? MaxxRaxx seems less bulky to store and quick and easy to fit - job done with Maxxraxx or am I missing something?

The Maxxraxx works best for a couple of bikes, is faster to fit and works with a trailer. The Atera works best for many bikes, is more secure, enables you to access the boot and reduces the risk of damage to the bikes.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Another vote for the Atera Strada. Really secure although the instructions take a little re-reading.

I had always been very pleased with our Atera Strada Evo and have previously recommended it on here. However, the more I use it the more I dislike it and wish I'd gone for something, smaller, lighter, easier to use and cheaper.Andy
Not sure what the difference is between the Atera Strada DL and Evo but the DL is an excellent bike carrier and can be fitted in a few minutes.
Didn't like the Maxxraxx at all - the Atera Strada holds the bikes in place whereas with the Maxxraxx they just hang on the top bar and held by straps.
Also the Maxxraxx doesn't fit on a removable tow bar without an adaptorD4 2010 HSE Santorini Black

Slight drift in that this is for two bikes.
Being not totally happy with carriers which fit to tow balls, finding roof mounts awkward, wanting a design which could be used whilst towing my caravan and finally the need to avoid really wet weather as one bike is an electric, I did this.
Took an 18mm piece of plywood and cut it to fit in the rear of my D4 and notched two cutouts to fit around the two rear lashing eyes, this was to stop it sliding under braking.
Got an engineering friend to make four brackets from 2mm stainless and bolted these to the plywood base.
I bought two quick release skewers off eBay and fitted them through the brackets.
Once strapped down with the bike forks locked the whole deal is very secure and as I say cannot move
forwards due to the lashing eyes being lifted into the cutouts by the strap.
Plenty of room around our bikes for the bagged wheels and other gubbins and keeps the bikes dry in transit.
Just an idea for you two bikers.

I've got an Atera Strada DL with the 4th attachment and put it my new discovery today for the first time with rubbish results. On my previous car you put it on the towbar and pulled the handle down until it clicked at least twice, this was fairly tight making it click twice and needed some force.
On my discovery the handle pulled down very easily right to the bottom with 3-4 clicks but on arriving we found the whole rack had twisted. On examining it you could move the rack with a bit of force, almost certainly due to the grip on the towbar not being tight enough.
I've had the Atera for years so presume this is good. The discovery towbar is a genuine Land Rover one that had never been used before, the black paint was still flawless. Is the LR towbar slightly smaller than other cars or could mine be faulty?

If the Strada DL is new i'd speak to the supplier - sounds like something is wrong with the rack as mine fits on really nice and tight Stolen - D4 Loire Blue

Three and a half years old unfortunately so just out of warranty. I'll examine the mechanism closely tonight and then give them a call for advice anyway as I can't leave it the way it is.

My Atera takes a couple more 'clicks' to be secure than the instructions suggest it should; I've found that this isn't an issue if I hold the carrier level while pushing down on the handle rather than letting it sit tilted slightly under its own weight.

Cb31 I had the same problem with our Atera rack and tow ball. I rang roof box.co.uk who I bought it from and they sent a small metal shim which clips inside the socket on the rack and makes it a bit tighter. It's been fine. Don't think they charged for it but it was new then. Worth ringing them - they were very helpful.
