The "wood" interior trim is really poor though up close. Reminds me of wood effect sticky-back-plastic.

How true... that's exactly what it looks like - I think it's the colour?

yes the colour is very odd. It's not real wood right ? If it is then Censored knows what they did to it to make it look that way.

Yes design does matter… it contributes greatly to the way we feel about our cars.

But you know that, otherwise you’d be driving a Toyota! Laughing

My wife had an E-46 325 BMW (made in South Africe). It had a black interior, with wooden bits here and there. They were plastic too. But they looked terrific. My HSE has Windsor leather, black, but no piano black trim bits - just black plastic. With alloy trim on various bits. It looks fine, but IMO, with some of the BMW dark fake wood, it would look much better. Or even real wood.

It appears that there are no kits for such an upgrade.

Strange too that the timber quality of the LR wooden trim is low quality. I'd have though that the English would do wood trim well. Jaguar used to do a good job at that. And Rolls Royce would make duplicate veneers for your Silver Cloud, and if you ever damaged a piece of timber, you'd just get the twin veneer from RR. I suspect those days are gone ... although you'd have paid a bit for that matching veneer I reckon ...

My wife has an RX 350. She loves it. Actually so do I. I have some other Toyota cars too.

Her's is the luxo model, with different leather and timber, etc etc. It has a timber that looks like its fake ie plastic, and it looks a bit like its been effected by the sun. It has some kind of lighter lines in it and almost speckles, which are faint. Its a very dark timber that the Japanese value (they do like dark timbers). Strange that the Japanese have gone to a lot of effort, to make a special timber, that looks a bit like its fake timber!! And one never can get rid of the feeling, that maybe it is fake afterall ... it seems at least that the Disco timber is obviously real.

I presume the timber would be a veneer too (to prevent cracking and distortion). If its real, one could take the timber out, sand it and then apply a plastic coating to it - a couple of them. Gloss or a sheen ... it would last forever. Strange the LR are not doing it properly ...

Snigger Tacky! Shocked May look OK at new but down the line most defo will date and lower the tone of the vehicle, most 10yo D3s still look good as they are but IMO that would look awful in a few years (think its boaky now! Confused )

The wood I have seen looks real, because it doesn't appear to be heavily varnished and the wood grain seems very clear.

I bought an NX Lexus for my mother and it has a featured wood trim; it is very glossy; Lexus advise that its imitation. I think motor makers selling fake wood have to say so, somewhere at least, that it "looks like", or the "style", etc.

NEW QUESTION:

Please would anyone who has one of these OEM wood and leather steering wheels let me know if the wood section is genuine tree, or if it's a fake?

Thanks in advance! Thumbs Up
