Drove it several times week before last. Its a fabulous road. There is a short section of single track before Gairloch, but its a wide single track!.
It was as hour from Inverness to Kinlochewe with the caravan in tow. Its about another 1/2 hour to Gairloch.

Gairloch is a one way in/out, but it's a lovely village, and pretty mountainous all around. I recommend The Steadings cafe behind the museum. Lovely lunch.
Take a drive around the coast road, to Melvaig, and keep going. You will meet a sign that says it's "the end of the public road, carry on at your own risk" Carry on for about 3 miles, and you will come to a lighthouse. Park where it says, and go for a walk along the coast. Take your camera! I pictured an otter!
EDIT, Sorry there is a road through to Ullapool also, so not one road in/out.

Why have you selected Bute for a visit?
Very small island but Rothesay is/was a bustling little town 40 years ago when I used to sail all around there.
You don't mention Skye, that's well worth a visit Stew,

Roger that
Colintriave ferry brings back memories too.
Used to watch the Clyde Steamers including the paddler Waverley going through the narrows and on towards Tignabruaich.
Here's me thinking you didn't know the place Stew,
