£312 is a good price, if its going to fail it will fail in 3 months
Any info whether it has had an overhaul or what mileage car it came off

would an oil change in the diff not be worth a try 1st? mine rumbled a tad at 40mph. so I dropped the oil, cleaned a fair bit of swarf of the magnetic plug and refilled with some good quality diff oil. the noise has now gone. Very Happy

D3 Noise after de-accelerating

Hello. So is that the case for me too I read? I got this grinding noise just few days ago when foot off the gas pedal. I guess it started after some off-roading recently. Purchased d3 2007 recently with 200k km. do you think changing the oil ASAP can prevent diff replacement? Or there is no hope Very Happy ?

Based on the state of my bearings I would say the damage is already done but regular oil changes might slow down the deterioration.

I had the oil changed in mine as a hope it would cure it but unfortunately no joy, I got a second hand diff and changed it out and the noise is now gone, you can get diff bearing kits but I'm not sure how much of a pain it is to redo them, I have bought a set and now have someone refurbish my old one so I'll at least have a spare just in case.

Hope you get it sorted

Hi mate, i couldn't really make out the noise on the video. I can't even think the best way to describe the noise I had, it was like a really bad wheel bearing noise! That was why I had the wheel bearings checked first. It only happened with me when I was at about 50, 60 mph then I'd let my foot off the accelerator and it would sound like a bad rumble.

Hope you get it sorted but if you can get a video with better sound I'll tell you if it was similar to mine

Cheers

Difficult to hear but if your symptoms are as described by newks then its more than likely the diff. My noise was identical to his. It was the carrier bearing on the left that had begun disintegrating.
