Dented Disco's alternator output (red trace, peak 13.8v). With a battery at 12.6v, OAT 10 deg C, this equates to a float charge only:

Ok..just wanted to update this ....yesterday I removed the aftermarket susspention control unit so the vehicle back to standard ,after which I let it run for a while then tried a drain test Shocked new set of results after letting the vehicle sleep for over 30mins the readings are down to 0.78 amps on the DMM for the total battery drain ,whilst the BCM tested at the same time with the fuse buddy is showing 0.14 amps on the DMM .

The vehicle was used last night for a 30 mile trip, So this morning I ran the same tests to double check and got the same results .

Using the Fault-mate msv I then reset the BMC ECU , ran the same tests as before allowing the same amount of time for the vehicle to go to sleep only to find the same results again.

I'm now going to recheck the other fuses again Thumbs Up

I'm a bit confused. You say that the total drain was 0.78 amps but that the results are down. We didn't see anything like 0.78 amps (780 mA) when you were with me.

Any chance you have missed a decimal point along the way or is it really drawing this amount of current?

Battery Drain

I am not sure whether to post to this thread but it is the same topic.

The background to the problem is that the alternator blew up and zapped the battery. The alternator was replaced with a new one and the service place said that the (Varta) battery looked OK. However the battery did not seem to be holding the charge too well as evidenced by Traxide led indicating prolonged charging at 15v more often than not and the usual set of voltage low warning lights coming on from time to time. After having the issue checked-out, a new battery was fitted. Not long afterwards we were away for 5 weeks and on return the battery was competley flat and would not even charge. The car had been outside and overnight the temperature does drop below zero on occasion. It is usually garaged.

The average overnight voltage drop is between .25 to .5. The service place checked for any parasitic battery drain and residual draw showed as 0ma (which I find hard to understand). I have disconnected the auxiliary battery overnight but to no effect. I have now pulled out F26E to see if the EAS wake-up is the problem. The EAS is always in the access setting when in the garage as dictated by the ceiling height.

A 2012 post on this topic by Robbie sad that other circuits could come alive overnight in error so it would be good to know what these might be.
