Clutch

Hi.when my disco 3 had done 42000 miles I had to have a new clutch.I put this down to EGR.valves failing in the centre of France, with a loss of power I pulled my caravan home with great difficulty but finally arrived.
Now I have the EGR blanked off. I have done 78000 miles now how many miles do you think till I need a new clutch.
I only do 9000 miles a year about a third towing.
Cheers. Mal.

My gearbox failed at 47000 under warranty and while they had it apart I paid for a new clutch to go back in. Now at 84000 it is a little notchy when I select 1st gear for the first time in the morning but other than that it doesn't slip and is ok in every other respect, about a third of my driving is towing a big double axel caravan.

Just can't see the connection between EGRs failing and the clutch going Confused Unless you had to slip the clutch to somehow make use of what power you had? Neutral
Blanking the EGRs was the way to go, drive carefully even towing your clutch could last for a long time yet! Thumbs Up

I'm on the original clutch on MY54 S with 109k on the clock.

Thumbs Up

No slipping as yet and plus like a train in all gears.

Thumbs Up

Be careful with your clutch though - when towing or pulling off on a steep hill use low range to get moving. Thumbs Up

I have always used low range for pulling away and when in traffic, its amazing that it become second nature after a while.

Clutch

Hi.thanks for your posts, when the problem happened about 650 miles from home, the turbo didn't cut in until about 2500 rpm so with a big caravan I needed to slip the clutch to start. Once again many thanks for your posts .
Cheers. Mal

After 6 months of pulling a power boat on a trailer up a slip way at work, the staff managed to burn out the clucth on our old D3 as they never used low range.. grrrrrrr

To be fair I do a lot of motorway miles but have always used low range when towing, user load, or in heavy traffic.

137,000 miles on original clutch. I do a small amount of towing. I don't have any symptoms but wouldn't be surprised if a new clutch is my next big maintenance job. Has anyone done a clutch change as a DIY job?

I've done it on Range Rover P38 on my drive years ago. It was a big job that required plenty of tools, jacks, stands etc and patience.

They aren't that bad as long as the exhaust downpipe nuts come undone. The linkage rod between the gear stick and the box is held in with a slide pin that is about 2.5 inches long and you have a 2" gap to get it out so its a bit of a Censored but not that bad Thumbs Up

clutch noise

My car has done 95000 miles now on its second clutch. Now I have a noise when in neutral with pedal down no noise at all, lose pedal out and there is a rumbling noise but with the pedal full out it stops.
It seems the noise is only in mid travel of the pedal.
I have no slipping or any problem getting gears.
can anybody help please.
Mal.
