2008 HSE Catastrophic engine failure - options now?

Very, very disappointing Big Cry that my much loved D3 has suffered a major engine failure. Question is, what is the best thing to do with it now? I have clocked up 158k miles in it, dealer serviced since new and until the engine went into self destruct, it had been incredibly reliable and still drove like it did the day I bought it.

I understand that the cost of having a new engine fitted is likely to be more than the value of the vehicle, so given that what is the best option to recover as much money as I can to put towards my next Disco? I don't have the time or space to take it apart and sell the bits.

It is a 57 plate 2008 HSE with TV, privacy glass and tow pack options, 4 almost new General Grabber AT tyres on the original alloys.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

It would be worth contacting Pete from Landrover customer relations forum, he may be able offer some good advice?

If you fancied breaking things up a little and it would help. I am after the bits for the OEM RSE retro fit as in this guide. http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...0Guide.pdf

Just a thought. Whistle

As Gareth said, I would try Pete from LR Customer Services Thumbs Up
What has failed on it? Is it the cambelt tensioner mounting point?

Seems to be another from the well documented "problem years" group. Hope LR customer services help. There can be no denying that vehicles this age have a serious design flaw.

Have you contacted Pete@LandRover? Peeps with similar issue have had a replacement engine paid for by LR. Thumbs Up

As others have said, contact Pete. As your disco has as full LRSH you are a prime candidate to get some help from Land Rover. Your failure is most likely to be one of two known issues being a 2008MY.

Petes contact details.

Sorry to hear about your problems HappyMug.

Have you found out what the cause of your engine failure is then? I've read about quite a few occasions of people with similar problems. Mostly cambelt issues and oil pump issues.

Regarding the actual engine fault - I don't have the knowledge to be able to confirm, but the AA man was quite sure it was terminal and suggested "bottom end". It did (reluctantly) restart but sounded very sick so I don't want to try that again for fear of doing more damage.

Many thanks for the suggestions to contact Pete. I have PM'd him and will hold my breath while I wait for a reply.

It sounds too good to break personally I'd contact Pete but prepare for a new engine. Although I've never had any work done by Mikey I'd go to him to have it fitted.

With everything I have read on this forum DisoMikey is a disco whisperer plus he's changed the engine on his D3.
Geoff: EGR's blanked, gearbox flushed, allisport hoses, BAS Remap, 3 flash indicator, D4 bluetooth, remote FBH
Uncle Ray: Spare wheel protector
Flack: Reverse camera
Allisport de-cat pipe, D4 19" alloys, D4 piano black steering wheel, piano black interior, colour coded trim, cubby fridge, full length roof rails

At that price I think I would be considering the engine replacement if you haven't suffered any other grimlins with the car. It also depends on how you feel about the car. Is it your pride and joy or have you been considering an upgrade to a D4 for some time now. Many things to consider. Heart over head and for me it's heart (pride and joy ) or just triggers broom. Rolling with laughter
