excessive emissions

Hi,

Took my D3 in for service and Mot last Monday, no problems to report drove like a dream for the 45 mile journey to the Dealer so quite possitive it would be done and dusted by early afternoon. Wrong Shocked Mot failure due to excessive emissions with only 26k on the clock:blub: since then the dealer has done all the possible checks and adjustments but cannot get a successful pass, they have referred this to Landrover now and awaiting their response, so wait and see what this week brings, I have a courtesy car and the dealer has been very good in keeping me informed of what's happening.

Has anyone else experienced something simmilar?? if so what was the outcome??

Not quite the same car but my old 29 year old VW camper failed emissions tests last year and the garage put Cataclean though the system

Emissions tests passed

Works on diesel too, but you shouldn't be having emissions problems at that mileage. Maybe a lot of short trips are causing carbon build up?

26K on a (at newest) a late 2009 car? - maybe is carbon build up?
Would the dealer not spot a dodgy intercooler hose?
Anyway - good luck in getting sorted

Thanks for your responses guys, I'm confident the dealer has checked for split hoses and I would hope the possible build up of carbon, Mikey I will suggest the injectors replacement. At worst what could this be??

I think I know the answer - presumably you are not using an SO2 additive (2 stroke oil)?

Good point NJSS - a good number of comments on the forum of 'Tester said cleanest emisions he'd seen', pictures of startingly clean pistons / injectors.
Could be other factors of course, but worth a few quid to bung some JASO FC mineral 2T with a fill up and give it a bit of a thrash?

You are correct NJSS but I only use good quality fuel Shell V power diesel.

Barry
Only ever used 'premium' fuels and being using 2t for over a year, may be worth a punt
Thanks

Maybe it needs a good run and a proper "italian tune up"

When i worked in the uk we used to get TD4/5's fail emissions on a regular basis, a bottle of fuel additive in the filter and a very spirited 5 mile drive on the way to the testing station used to do the trick!!

Yup,wife's car failed on emissions last year,I think it's was STP that do a product actually specifically for pre-MOT....anyway I put a bottle in,and it passed....might be worth a go as said above Thumbs Up

It shouldn't fail with the EGR's and the CAT removed sasdiscos, ours passed with flying colours, an 06 with 109.000. I think what the OP needs to do is actually drive the car. It needs a damn good thrashing down the motorway. A reason I don't like low mileage cars, the odd once a year 50 mile drive or popping the kids to school or a mile down the road everyday is no good for a diesel engine. Rolling Eyes

I've been restoring vintage and classic tractors for a number of years and the best thing i found to lubricate is automatic transmission fluid in the diesel, works a treat every time, but I don't know how that would affect today's modern diesel engine??
