Head first into a 54 SE...
Hi all...
It's time to order my disco3.co.uk window sticker!
Bought myself a 54 SE manual, 105k. Great condition thoughout, but needs imeadiate work doing.
Namely;
Cam belts
Wheel bearing(s)
Possible suspension work
4 wheel alignment (steering wheel is slightly off, but tracks true)
O/S rear light cluster has a small hole
And for POM a full service.
Advice needed!
I'm thinking of taking it to LR for service and belts, then see what they find that needs doing, then take it to a decent local specialist, probably Tim Fry of Cheltenham, to do whatever else they find.
Does this sound wise? Or should I just let Tim Fry do the lot?
While its in, what other preventative maintanence would you guys recommend I have done?
Tia
Jack
(While you pull me apart for such a foolish purchase (£5800 btw) I'm going to order my sticker!

5.8 sounds very good! even if it does need some maintenance. I would leave the main dealer out of this, as they will probably find loads that does not need doing, and miss stuff that does!
You might want to budget for a transmission oil flush.
EDIT, just seen its a manual, so forget the flush!

+1 for the indy .... and leave out the dealer
Not a foolish purchase as many believe the early ones are the best
Or drive to Flack in Lytham as with the petrol costs it would still be cheaper and more fun D4 Front upgrade/cut back wings n things 'taking a long time but getting there'.
D4 rear upgrade - Narpys helped with that bit
Flack for problem solving and D4 Bluetooth Install/ D4 Heated Steering wheel with Flappy paddles n BBS enabling kit
Disco Mikeys work - Serviced, EGR blanking and 4x4 software upgrade, 3 flash indicators.
B.A.S - FBHIC. Uncle Rays spare wheel protector. Beanie Silver Black badges.

Ah cheers guys, you've really put my mind at rest!
I'll take it to Tim Fry. What about preventative maintanance?
Also, I'd like it remapped sooner rather than later. I've only heard good things about Gary at Alive tuning, it's a bit of trek for me though. Do you know anyone who's equally as good in the Midlands?

I was in the same boat as you, I found a perfect(for me) D3 but it had high mileage, the price seemed ok so I went for it! It's a 55 plate SE and I'm now three weeks into owning it...........I absolutely love it and still smile every time I take it out!! I'm still finding my way around on here and I'm yet to speak to someone who isn't helpful........it's a great place

Ive spent a lot more on a car in the past, but NEVER has a car felt SO right. Very much in love it, despite the fact it's the wrong(ish) colour, (sage green or whatever LR call it) and it's not auto. But I'd been looking for ages and nothing was perfect for me, but at that price it soon became the best option!
The colour is already looking much better, (was after grey) and as much as like a lazy box, the manual is a pleasure to shift!
So, whose the best tuner in the West Midlands then?!

Nice looking car for the money!
Personally, I would get some of the later model D4 LED rear lights. They look better, and being LED you won't be forever changing brake bulbs!
Put a better looking D4 lookalike grill on it to freshen up the front, maybe de-tango your headlights?
Seat rip should be repairable. I quite like that green.

Cheers Gareth, the green is growing on me!
Do the brake bulbs fail a lot then? Was considering upgrading to LED rear clusters, but I like the look of the light guards (front and rear) so not sure yet.
Do you know if 2014 headlight clusters are a straight swap, or is a lot of modification required?

New wings (or cut them) and bumper I'm afraid
