FBH Problem

FBH does not seem to kick in start since the cold weather started here in rural Leicestershire. Neutral
Worked OK last December!

Plenty of fuel in tank and no battery problems.

So checked codes with IIDTool.
First time got various other faults which I cleared.
But also B1D34 68 (2F) lockout

Cleared all faults and tried again the next morning.
Still not working but when I tried IIDTool again late afternoon there were no faults showing. Smile

So went into IIDTool Menu->Service Test-> Aux Heater :

Tried these in this order
-Fuel priming
- Self Test
-Check Operation
Now get code E3 after self test and E7 after check operation. (sorry might be other way round).
When I lifted the bonnet the FBH fan was whirring and there was a diesel smell but no smoke.
My only thought is that the coolant might still be too warm to run when I tried it.

Would appreciate any thoughts on what to do next?
My thinking is to try pulling fuse 28 and if no joy I will make up a cable to use the Webasto software.

...FBH fan was whirring and there was a diesel smell but no smoke...

Are you sure it's not working ?? Not all FBH units smoke. Easy test is to check the exhaust output in the FNS wheel arch. Carefully though, it will be hot if indeed it is running.

the IID self test will throw error E7, I emailed this to Gap last week, however, prime and check operation should work.

Prime is a 90 second routine and if you have the BT IID you'll see progress on the screen, the check operation needs you to start the engine part way through as it forces the FBH to run, did you follow the steps?

The E7 error wil be logged if you try the check operation function while the FBH is whirring away

My own heater took 3 or 4 attempts to get going after a summer of not being used Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the quick replies.
It's really good to know that you are not on your own trying to fix things.
I did search the site without success for information on the codes so it is brilliant to know that E7 does mean something!

Yes it counted down and yes I started the engine when asked to do so.

On Tuesday (-3degC) it took at least 3 miles before the temp gauge moved off the bottom so I pretty sure it was not working then!

So the acid test is when I go into Leicester at 0700 tomorrow morning!

If you want to test it via the iid tool- try 'check operation' but press the off button on the air con controls before starting the test. seems to work that way

I would say that the FBH is working if the engine is warming up at 3 miles. Mine takes longer than that starting at 6° C.

But the FBH doesn't warm the engine, it only supplements the heating unless wired to a remote?

It will only run when you have heating on won't it?

It is a supplementary heater when the engine is running, to help the coolant warm up even quicker. Doesn't matter if e interior blowers are on or not. Thumbs Up

It works!!
Temp gauge off the bottom in about 2 miles or less and almost up to normal in about 7 miles going into Leicester.
But absolutely no smoke and little smell.
I do use Millers and 2SO so perhaps that is why?

Lesson learned however - IIDTool is invaluable and when time permits I will make up the test cable.
Thanks for all the support and help.
