Best Value for Money Battery Charger (via tow bar electrics) |
|
Been having a few electrical issues and I think this is down to my wife not using the car for long enough distances. Tends to do a lot of short journeys and never gets a proper charge.
So hence the question, what is the best value for money charger that I can connect via tow bar electrics ? I don't have a garage so will be running the cable out of the dining room window........(which will then be locked open) and connected to the car. Would rather not have the bonnet open over night or have a window wound down.
I was looking at the c-tek mxs 10 (seems to get good reviews)
thanks for any suggestions

Tayna are doing the MXS 5.0 for £51.99 today:

This looks like a good deal to me. I would recommend you get a CTEK Comfort lead and wire that up to your battery and locate it behind the grille. The towing electric adapter could be added later if necessary.
If you're charging it up overnight, I would have thought the 5.0 should be adequate.

thanks guys, will take a look. when i charge it, it will be through the night so I too think the 5 will be fine. probably only do it once a week anyway.
will need to check the tow bar connectors are compatible, i just assumed they would be an easier way as i can reverse the car right up to the house and drop the cable out of the window.
Hopefully not too much of a silly question but I guess the car can be fully shut down and locked while I am charging the battery ? James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

Yes, fully shut down and locked is fine.
Mine is charged via the tow electrics using the forum tow bar adapter and a Ctek 5.0.
I would have probably gone for a higher amp one but bought this one so I can use it on the motorbike as well.

I got this one for £40.71 on Amazon lightning deals, its a kit with the accessories shown, charges up to an 85Amh battery and trickle charge higher, it may well come back up on the deals, you can then get an adapter with C-Tek adaption on it from Martin that plugs into the tow electrics, I got one for my defender as the battery is under the passenger seat and its great

As I said for a full charge from zero its 85, but can be used for trickle charging, have a quick read of its capabilities, I have bigger ones but got this as a trickle charger for my tender RIB for the boat, I was going to buy a 2.5mtr extension lead for £13 and this came in this pack so cheaper to buy the pack and have spare stuff Lord Discotres of Glencoe

Just ordered the MXS10 from Tayna today as a precaution as now working nearer home so the Disco wont get quite as much use, also can give my tintent battery a decent charge!! Had a discount code which did another 5% off so not too bad!!
