new alternator new battery now ive got a parking brake fault
Today i picked the car up from a local garage who fitted a new alternator for me following a little drama last week. (battery light came on followed by burning smell).
However on driving out of there yard I get the bong of trouble followed by message saying parking brake fault and orange (!) on dash. I also noticed that there was no gear selected either.
i took car straight back and the mechanic put it on there iid machine. and it came up with a number of faults which he cleared.
whilst chatting with mech i asked him if he had checked the battery he told me it was fine but a new one might help clear fault with park brake as the orange fault light was still coming on. so off i go and buy a new battery which i fit myself. and do a soft reset.
But i am still getting park brake fault light up and gear selection on dash is slow.
I am asking is there anything else either I or my friend with the spanners can try to solve this issue .
please note i had new park brake actuator fitted in June by dealer where i bought car from
regardsRich

What alternator have they fitted? I had parking brake faults and sat nav issues when I fitted an alternator from eurocarparts.
Genuine remanufactured unit solved it. 2014 D4 XS

My indie fitted a new alternator (non LR) and before I got to collect they noted continued faults so ordered a better spec' one (at their cost ) which sorted all issues which never returned before I sold it.
My advice - don't go on budget with the alternator

Looking for some advice. About a month ago my local independent LR garage fitted a new alternator. (2005 auto) Ever since then on cold damp mornings the amber parking brake light light flashes intermittently and the power to the radio / sat nav cuts in and out too. After a short time it all goes back to normal.
Is this likely to be as above with the wrong voltage from the alternator, a loose connection or another fault?
Starting to annoy me and would like to go back to the garage pre-armed with possibilities and questions.
Thanks, Mark

Mark, sounds exactly the same as the alternator over-charging.
If you have the ability, have the fault codes read before going back to them. You are looking for a specific over voltage fault in the EPB module, and there may also be one stored in the Transfer Box module...My D3 Build Thread

I have this problem with an RTX alternator from ECP, am going to get me a Denso to replace it when i've got a spare £220!
This voltage can be read from the diagnostic on the Nav screen if you have this, search for secret button on here. Mine goes away after a few minutes but noticed it is taking longer of late.
Roy.
