Discovery 4 xs

hi all just testing the water and trying the whole forum out thing!!! I also would like to say what a brilliant forum so much info, hats off to all who have taken time to write messages.
My main question really is I have just brought a disco 4 xs 2010 model and I am wanting to fit a genuine land rover reversing camera and wanted to know if the GVIF interface module would be fitted in the centre console already there!!!!?
This is what I have been reading/home work!!!! also how easy to carry out this mod.
cheers

Don't you have a camera installed? I've got a 2010 Disco XS and I was of the opinion that the reversing camera is standard equipment on that model. Or am I being thick and you mean something else.

Hi there

I have just done the same on my 2010 XS.

You will need the following

Camera
Tailgate wiring loom
New upper tailgate switch with camera wiring.

You will need to pick up a power feed for the cam as the wiring in the upper headlining won't be there on a 2010, took mine from the reversing light feed so the cam is only energised when you are in reverse.

You will them need to run a COAX cable from the upper rear headlining area to the back of the navigation screen.

Depending on which screen is fitted the connection is either 2 pins on an IDC type arrangement or an SMB/FAKRA connector.

You will then need someone with a diagnostic tool to enable the cam for you.

If you do it that way you don't need GVIF unit.

Many thanks to Flack for the fitment and showing me how to pull the centre dash apart Thumbs Up

Cam on the XS was an option, standard on HSE. Smile

reverse camera

hi again

I was just wondering if anyone has fitted a reverse camera and fitted the complete wiring harness and coax cable from the screen in front to the back tailgate.
The wiring goes down the nearside of vehicle!!!! routed?

I have brought the LR genuine camera with tailgate handle which has a blue 4 pin connector and a small wire coming of it.

I have read that I will need a GVIF module if so is it situated under passenger front seat.

My XS has sat nav etc, no tv

If there is anyone who can help but also supply the remaining parts, please contact me I would be very interested to speak to you.

Yep I have done that on mine.

You need 2 looms and a camera

camera LR043493
loom 1 LR021100
loom 2 LR015458

I got mine from the excellent parts department at Yeovil Landrover.

Your profile says you vehicle year is 2010, so once you have installed the tailgate wiring you will need to route a coax cable from the upper headlining at the rear to behind the satnav.

You will also need a power feed, I took mine from the reversing light so that the camera is only powered when reverse is selected, you could take a permanent live if you wanted the camera powered all the time.

cheers for fast reply

Yes its a 2010 xs model.
Did you run the coax cable down the left side, up over the headlining and then down?

I checked and no wires above the rear headling such a shame!!!!

So basically need to run about a metre of wiring from camera cable up the tailgate then down to nearside rear light and wire into reverse light or 12v power permanent.

See in the handbook fuse 31 in passenger fuse box is a 5 amp which is for the reverse camera live!!! oh and rain sensor.

Brought the coax down the D pillar at he back then at floor level on the passenger side, then up behind the glovebox.

You will need someone with a diagnostic tool to enable reverse cam in the CCF

If you don't buy the looms the you can run a coax down into the tailgate, along with power cables, if u have the LR looms the power cable is in them up to the headlining.

starting from the camera.....

The tailgate switch loom has 2 connectors for the video, one plugs into the cam, the other (brown) one comes through to the inside of the tailgate and plugs into its brown friend on the mail tailgate loom (also brown.

the other connection is at the top of the tailgate which would mate up with the plug in the headlining, which on your car won't be there. You need to run your own coax from here.

At least thats how mine went together.

hi,

Basically the blue connector is from the camera and the wiring loom has a smaller brown connection and I was wondering if there's an adapter!!!! available? to attach them together or is it another camera!!!!! please no!!!!!

Any help will be much appreciated, also is there a cable available to buy from front to back camera to screen in the brown coax cable to fit the cable arrangement I have.

Thanks all

hi,
The LR015458 switch wire loom has a grey connector and 2 black number plate connectors and one white connector for the Camera I take it. The problem is the blue connector from camera DOES not fit the white connetor!!!!!!!
So either wrong loom or camera!!!!!!!
Can anyone advise or know a solution!!!!

Anyone have a camera for sale which would fit?? Cheers
