YMMV. Either will work. Depends on the price on the privacy glass is, of course. It’ll look better.
The tint I have cost ~300 eur.

Not sure, my guess is that the glass can be easily removed, but I don't want to mess something up that's why I'm asking for some manual.
My biggest concern is the rubber, I want to do it properly so it doesn't leak afterwards.
I had the standard clear glass replaced with factory tinted glass.
The rears are bonded in place and I helped a windscreen installer fit it He used the 'cheese' wire saw to cut the bonded rubber while I pushed out the glass and placed protective boarding to protect the interior trim. Replace the tailgate screen as well with factory tint.
I didn't want to see the antenna lines on the glass on the rears or on tailgate screen, looks so much better.....err like factory.
Glad I used someone with experience and with the right removal kit.

Just be aware that if you have a tint applied, you'll need to declare it to your insurers as a 'modification' and they'll put your premium up ... and if you don't declare it and then have to make a claim, there's every chance they'll use it to wriggle out of paying.
I was looking at having mine done, and was quoted between £200 and £250 to have it applied. But then someone mentioned the insurance thing, so I gave Esure a call to check, and yes, they considered a simple window tint as a 'mod' and would have increased my premium accordingly, so in the end I didn't bother.

Film just looks silly IMHO you can tell its film as the Elements are clearly visible on the rear windows
However
Just as an FYi Rear film is viewed by most sensible underwriters as a security enhancement due to the fact it makes it harder to break the glass (Even harder with SuperGlass Film) Brokers do however use it as a cash cow

Wow, it sure sounds like a lot of hustle. That is exactly why I asked, thanks man. In that case, I guess I'll leave it to a pro.
As the insurance, I don't think in my country we have to declare that to the insurance, but I'll check anyway. Thanks for the heads up.

Anyone had OE clear glass swapped out for OE tinted glass by a professional recently? Just wondering how much they charge as this thread is 6 years old now!
Sorry for dragging it up from the depth of the archives! 😂

I'd get yourself to Pentagon in Reading. They are superb and do all our vehicles with the supaglass bandit film as well as tints.
100% recommend them

I had mine tinted a few years ago and already have a few scratches, so consider this. The highlight being when my idiot mate was driving and had just put a barbecue in the back...
Is there a product for touching up/filling the scratches? They're not so big.

Yeah another issue i guess to think about that is!
We have 3 kids and do a lot of camping so the cargo area is normal filled, so anything possibly touching the rear quarters or boot glass could scratch the film.
The more I read, the more I lean towards OE glass, no matter the cost!
When I started this post I was leaning toward factory glass but the hassle and cost of having it fitted was to much in the end. So I went with tints done by Old School Windscreens in Chertsey near Woking. Worth every penny of the £250 I spent. Had the D3 for 5 years with 2 kids under 8 by the time I sold it they hardly marked it. I can remember one light scratch done by my son.

I had to change 2 factory Fitted privacy glass windows, because i modified my D3 to a commercial version.
Dutch rules for the commercial version,( for the cheaper tax that is) demand on One fully blinded window.
Ok... because i wanted to save the rear window (factory privacy glass) i hired a pro for that one...
Like carglass....
if you remove all the panels inside yourself they can do that easy and quick... glueing a new one in, is for them easy and quick to do... then you do the panels yourself again...
Same with the rear window....
Rear doors, you do only need two right hands.... if you have the Tinted quarterpanels and windows... that Is rather plug and play, just needs time and a dry place to do the work...Best regards

Thanks for the replies and experiences shared!
For those that have tinted film applied, how much did it add to your premium for insurance? I’m guessing this may be a U.K. thing?! Any possible way to squeeze more money from us!
