I'm not sure what your point is You originally suggested that a separate switch for additional main beam lights was a legal requirement, which it isn't. If you really mean that adding a switch would be a good idea so you can turn them off if the police are around then I guess that might work, but that does suppose that the police could recognise a non-e marked light in the first place. However, adding a switch to lights that aren't e marked won't make them any more legal.Darren

Well I didn't say they would be any more legal on the road ... they would be legal for "off road" use which of course you could demonstrate to plod by having a switch so that they couldn't possibly be used on road permanently. That is my point 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
Many years ago I had a 6v VW Beetle and has a second 12v battery under the rear seat to power the radio. And also a single 12v spot light on the front bumper. All switched separately, but operated by the passenger.
The single spot was legal, due to the age of the car, but the way it was switched wasn't. Never had an issue though with the boys in blue. Mark.

Ah, I see. We got there in the end,eh? However, the only way that you could make the argument of non-e marked lights being for off road use only is if they're switched completely independently of the main beam rather than just being isolated from it.Darren

....I knew what I meant even if nobody else did
I've no doubt you are right ..but the fact that there is a switch there would be enough to satisfy all but the most ardent plod.
Even though lamps can be e marked at higher wattage it is still unclear as to whether they are road legal. We agreed earlier that PIAA do provide high wattage sports lamps which are marked but if you read their own bumpf they imply that they are not road legal as they are not included in the list This maybe because they are for "competition" use.

Legality regarding PIAA bulbs.
Please note that only the following bulbs that are E marked are road legal.
All other bulbs in the PIAA bulb range are for off road and show use only.
