welcome Thumbs Up

they have improved it - sort of ! but you need an RLD wheel protector

search for RLD Wheel protector and/or send a PM to Ray - "RLD"

Here's a photo of one fitted to DCM's D4

They do come highly recommended to stop the travelling folk from nicking your wheel Thumbs Up

As for protection against the elements, I've never bothered personally but I'm sure I have seen a photo on here of somebody fitting a cover but can't find it at the moment

Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Mr. Green

I have the RLD wheel protector but it's hidden by the wheel cover.

Just received mine today, thanks Ray, and will be fitting once rain stops.

Looks good, well made and finished, confidence restored that the spare will be there should I need it!

Spare wheel protector

Hi, I have recently received my wheel protector from Ray and have yet to get it fitted.
Having never removed my spare wheel ( when I had one before some thieving git nicked it ) I have some questions!
How do you fit the protector
How does it stop thieving git's.
How do you remove the wheel when required.
Do you need any further nut & bolts etc to fit it.

Obviously offering myself up to have the pee taken but having never used it I genuinely don't have a clue!

Cheers in advance.

Of course ...we are not going to go into detail about how it stops the thieving gits Wink ...but just drop your wheel to the ground and give it a little slack ...lift the wheel and place the protector under it ....then it will be evident then how the protector fits using the cable and bar ...then wind back into position. Thumbs Up

I'm also a victuim of Spare Wheel Theft and am about to order an RLD protector. It did start me wondering though - isn't it a bit old fashioned (and fuel inefficient) to be carrying around UNDER A CAR a heavy and expensive alloy wheel with a brand new tyre? Does it make more sense to have a space saver and leave the alloy spare locked up at home?

Seems to me that the infrequency of punctures means we are a bit over-prepared for this particular roadside emergency. ANythoughts?

Is a few kgs extra for a full alloy cf a space (more like profit margin) saver going to make any difference whatsoever? These are gas guzzlers with aerodynamics of a grand piano, doubt it'll make squat difference. Plus I wouldn't want to be far from home on a Sunday or overnight with a puncture with a skinny wheel underneath, aren't they only meant for 50 miles at 50mph? As far as I'm concerned they shouldn't be allowed, and don't get me started on brands that don't even bother giving you a spare. Evil or Very Mad

Not a fan of space savers either, I know what I would rather have under my car if I have a puncture Thumbs Up
