Like the idea of the cover; couple of things bother me though..
How does water drain out?
How does a tea leaf know it's got an RLD without removing it?

1. The letters RLD are cut out of the plate, so drainage is out through there.
2. He knows when he tries to cut the cable and finds there's a great big RLD plate blocking access.

I wouldn't fit a full size spare until I had RLD's protector in place, sod's law it will be stolen before you blink.
You can always carry it in the boot for a few days.
