As 7k has been spent on your current car, why not keep it. Could have another 3 years without any issues Thumbs Up

I think D4's are like any other LR product, just down to luck of the draw. My proper 2nd hand D3 (bought at 8 years old with 80k clocked up, now showing 90k) has been a pleasure in the reliability stakes.

The brand new one I bought in 2004 was at the dealership so often I was on first name terms with the service manager and a mate who bought a brand new D4 even know's his middle name!!! Admittedly just like my first one it's electrical gremlins that he has fixed under warranty but buying new is supposed to do away with all the hassle.

In two and a bit years of ownership I have to say the only non-consumable problem I can think I've had was a tailgate latch breaking and the little chrome ring around the passenger's upholder coming unstuck...

... actually same happened to the driver's door mirror capping so yep, well unreliable!! Rolling with laughter

Have had far worse on Fords, Lotus, TVR, Mercedes, Peugeot and BMW

My FFRR was less reliable than my D3 but then I specifically purchased a 2009 D3 to get a last of the run with all the toys rather than pay £6k more for a "first of the run" D4 "basic" HSE and suffer and lessons not yet learned at that point.

Thumbs Up

tough call as i've wondered about swapping the 3 for a early 4, however i bought my d3 from a known source and for 3 years previous to me it had done maybe 5/6 miles a day, so had a few issue's, the more i use the 3 the better it seems to get, and mines a working vehicle aswell around the 20k a year mark

Small update, I've test driven a 10 plate D4 with 28K on the clock, think it might be a goer!

They've also offered me a bit over £10K on trade-in which I was pleasantly surprised at.

Oh and my car is used often and hard! I do environmental sampling so easily over 20K miles a year, and many off road. That's why reliability is so important.

I went from an 07 SE to a 10 HSE, my 07 was never out of the dealers for more than 2 months at a time, my 10 plate only had 1 trip in 3 years and that was for a leaking turbo, the D4 is a much more reliable and much better put together car IMO

2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Tonga GreenDiscovery 3

.... I 'm sorry to say that I disagree with almost nothing said here Embarassed
... I say, and so sincerely believe, the D4 suffers from the same problems as the D3 ... I'm not talking about the major problems and failures of engines, I don´t think that they are especially abundant in the brand LAND ROVER , this such of incidents occur in all brands and statistically LR is in the same line as any ... I talking about the most typical and usual things .. I have many friends with D4 and their problems , who suffers , are EXACTLY the same as experienced by the D3.. who suffers ... logical thing ...really we're talking , apart from advertising, that it´s the SAME CAR ... the only obvious improvements offered by the D4 .. are mostly interior finishes ... and increased engine ... I do not appreciate the increase in power .. but I prefer a 3-liter engine to a 2.7 ....here the D4 .... is different and clearly superior ... everything else ... EQUALS ...the SAME CAR... AND YOU CAN SAY what you want...
Thumbs Up
