| should I take my D4 to Oz with us |

HI,
A bit early to be asking as have not yet had our application approved, but I will ask anyway.
I was wondering what people thought about taking our D4 with us to queensland. Looking online at 2nd hand d4, with similar spec and year, they appear to be the same price in pounds as AUD when compared to my current motor. therefore, do I
1. sell mine over here and buy the same over there (i would loose out both ends)
2. Take it with us and take the loss when it comes to sell it (it will be classed as an import and worth less), plus additional cost of export.
3. Buy something else altogether, i.e. Landcruiser - this was the advice from a chap at the gun club who said they are more popular and therefore likely to have parts in stock in remote locations if we get in to trouble when off road.
4. an option I have not thought of that you want to make.
any sage advice?

Has been some previous threads on this subject, which seem to conclude it is not cheap or easy.
From memory different states have different rules and taxation charges etc.
Beleive no tax exemption exists like in the UK if improting your personal vehicle.

I'd sell it over there and buy one over here. Prices of cars are coming down over here with the economic slowdown that is happening and it is a right PITA to get a car through customs here. There's also the inspection that'll be required for registration, dependant on which state you're going to.
Your's will also be worth less, as an import, when it comes to sell.
Another consideration is whether there are regional spec. differences (air con for instance)
Finally, you'll be able to get a car within a few weeks of getting here, rather than waiting 8 weeks for it to land and another few weeks to sort out the above. Having moved over here 3 years ago it's a long wait for your stuff to land (my bikes were all I wanted to get my hands on) but waiting for a disco would feel even longer!
