I think they are trying to worry you Del, but if they have I can tell you how to test the ECT sensor.

I'm not worried, I'll get worried when I get the new sensor. Thumbs Up SWMBO is getting more worried though as she has even less faith in my techie abilities than you good peeps.

Would be interested in testing the old sensor, just for piece of mind. As a complete WAG would it involve a bowl of cold water, a bowl of hot water and my favourite D3 toy, the BMM. Check resistance in cold water, then put end of sensor in hot water & see what value does?

Two methods:

- Backprobe the sensor connector in situ and check the voltage
- Remove sensor connector and check the resistance

Up to you if you want to bathe with it or put it in your ice water…. Also an excuse to play with an IR thermometer if you have one.

Thumbs Up

Cheers, will give that a go. Would be peace of mind that that is the issue, or pursue another route if it's not as don't want this happening in the Pyrenees in October.

Now you're trying to mess with my mind!! Shocked Shocked If I get that I try & block the air intake and starve it of O2. If I'm brave enough to go anywhere near it. Whistle

Or the sensor thinks it is hot; the real temperature can be determined with a thermometer if there is any doubt.

Thumbs Up

True, but I've seen Del's car and know what he has been through - and the fact that he is normally Miss Daisy, any sort of extra load will cause extra heat. Though, the viscous fan should take care of that, unless that is knackered. But for that to be tested, you really need to look at the live values - and I think they normally fail in the full speed position - but Del says that he has heard it come on. Which suggests that it is not in fault (Or at least not the speed sensor within the unit). So it could well be the sensor - if it indeed wasn't that hot.

the sensor is a good shout and possibly is the fault but given the fact I was behind you on the plain and I have cleared what appeared to be 200kg of silt out of my rad a quick rince might not be a bad idea
Don’t worry it is supposed to sound like that...honest
