A stunningly unhelpful message for the end user.
Actually, under the circumstances, this is about as an informative a message as the Nanocom could and should be expected to provide.
All the CAN BUS coverage applications of the Nanocom evolution has a preceding VIN detect function that ascertains the vehicle Model it is connected to so it can check licencing and provide correct functionality to the user. This is quite a sophisticated function that has a large degree of accomodation in respect of its encountering new and unprogrammed ECU's being fitted ETC.
Neither i nor the Nanocom Evolution by it's message will reveal the exact reasons why a vehicle has failed a in respect of a the Vehicle Identity Detect function, as this would provide a significant breach of sucurity, but i am however willing to tell you that to get this message maens that there is at least two ECU's fitted to this vehicle from other vehicle models.
I am sorry to refer to beurocratic detail but our licencing makes it quite clear that we should have an expectation that electonically any vehicle would be unmodified in this respect and would pass any electronic checks that would validate the vehicles identity as being genuine and as built by the factory.

Make sure you've put the unlock code in the correct box when setting it up.
I had the same problem, simply because I'd put the unlock code in box 1 instead of box 11 (I think it's 11)
The set up will tell you which box you should put the unlock code in.Lee

There must be a way to fix it so I can use the Nanocom with it after upgrading the Nanocom so I can use it on the D3 as well as the D2's.
Sorry but is your Nanocom connected to a D3 before you have upgraded it to use on a D3???Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

I only used the nanocom on my D2's and bought a D3 last week and bought the upgrade a day or so before.
I think I put the unlock code in (4) not (11) so will try that tomorrow, never noticed that it was Licence 11, in too much of a rush to get playing. Dale

So in that scenario may I suggest a message akin to:

I've just checked on the Nanocom website, and it's licence 11, so it should go in box 11.Lee

Totally agree. Selling products does not stop after the funds are in. You have to take into consideration when marketing your products that even the dimwittiest of dimwits will buy your product and totally ignore or mess up your carefully thought of stuff. It's tough, but even than, you collected their funds, you owe them your attention and appreciation for them having your product intead of one of the many competitors out there. For me this type of reply would have made me send the item back and ask for a full refund.
Why refer to a stupid reply like this, where you could have done with: I'm sorry to hear our product does not work as expected. Giv me your phone number and we'll sort it for you.RLD Sump Guard
