Hard ride.

I wondered if anybody can help,my suspension has gone hard ,it rises and lowers as normal and after reading on here it looks like the cross over valves need changing.
Could you please tell me if it's any problem to change them (warning lights etc.) I think this is the first thing to try.
Cheers.

Hi Mal

Have a look at this link. It outlines all of the details about changing valve blocks. If you buy new ones, they will have connectors on them and you know they will work.
Sorry, you might have to cut and paste! Sad

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic104532.html

I too have a hard ride but can't find the fault! I have repaired the compressor (it was leaking), replaced front valve block, check wiring, tyre pressure etc, but everything seems ok and fault codes checked, although got a few U codes with ride module stuff Confused It's driving me mad. I may just try and replace compressor valve or ride control module?! Everything else on the suspension works, it's just a hard ride.

Good luck and let me know if you solve yours. Someone on here said it could be lower steering column. It's a cheap and easy fix. I may give that one a go as well. Rolling with laughter

Many thanks quagmire .
I will let you know if I find anything, it seems strange it's just happened after fitting new front lower wishbones the first few days it was OK.
Cheers.

I presume that you had 4 wheel alignment done properly?

Hi all, I also have this problem. My ride is hard, shakes the inside like mad. Personal I don't think it's the crossover valves as this wood show as a fault. I think it's the shock absorbers, yes I know they are supported by the air springs but this would make sense as the car does what it should as far as suspension going up and down. Thumbs Up

Good point. But as far as I know, the valves can still be faulty and not throw any codes up Confused

How would you test the shocks? I suppose the older they get, the stiffer they become, after all mine is a 2004.

If the crossover valves are f Censored d then surly the car wouldn't go up and down as they also help with levelling the car Question . Also mine is 2005 (54) plate with 112000 miles on the clock plus just under 3 tonne of car think there probably the culprit. Mine seems to be harder at the front so gonna get the front shocks done first but not doing air springs as mine seem okay and as the saying goes IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT

No, they are only there for comfort and cross-articulation.

Hi D.Lundigan

I would be very interested to see how you get on. The more you think about it, the more it makes sense.

Don't think I will tackle that job.

Cheers

Hi Robbie, perhaps you could help. I have suffered with this problem since buying the car in October and I to thought it was the crossover valves. So I took it off road down a local lane down some pretty big holes, one wheel in one wheel out and so on and everything seemed to do what it should. Car stayed quite level one wheel went down in the hole other wheel went up. Is this the cross articulation working Question

Could be but pretty hard to judge in any given situation as the springs still react without it.

The de-energised position is closed and they open to allow air to pass from one air spring to the other for better articulation and also open at low speed to improve the ride comfort.

Of course, lots of other things contribute to ride comfort.

Robbin, you got me thinking now. Mine seems ok at speed say over 50mph but if I'm doing say 30mph I feel every crack in the road. It's such a bad ride sometimes it's a choice between the bumps and everything crashing about or going 10 mph over the speed limit just for a more comfy ride.

This is one to watch, I have exactly the same as you!

30-40mph is awful, teeth chattering! 60-70mph it is smooth!

55 plate, 140,000 miles... I'm thinking it will be the actual shockers but half tempted with a valve block it it may fix it...
