My near side rear wheel is getting very hot
Took my Disco 3 to local garage after I noticed that near side rear disc was hot after just a short journey. They stripped the wheel hub, checked the brake shoes, and made sure that the caliper was operating freely. They also did a full diagnostic on the EPB which showed up a single overheat incident. They told me it was fixed, and I drove home 20 miles. Guess what, when I go home disc was too hot to touch ( but completely cool on the off side). Any suggestions?

I would guess the epb shoes are corroded and not releasing properly. There is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes.

When my epb bound the car bounced up the road. To me it sounds like the caliper, if it's not the piston itself, another cause can be the sliders that the caliper slides on, may need a clean and grease. And I think the rear near side is quite common for some reasonJoined the BMWX5 45e group

It does sound like you have a sticky calliper, could be the piston or the the slider on the calliper carrier sticking, worth stripping down to clean the slider first Altox GSM FBH controller thread

Agreed that the NSR seems to be the most problematic. I experienced the same earlier this year.
Recommend you get it seen to soonish otherwise your pads will wear unevenly and you may end-up in a situation where one your NSR pads is down to the metal (with no indication on the dash due to the sensor being on the OSR).
You can buy a slider repair kit from Advanced Factors for less than an Ayrton:
If you're feeling adventurous, get the rear discs off and clean and grease the EPB shoe contact surfaces of the backing plate/splash guard (but NOT the friction surfaces!). You will need to adjust the EPB afterwards.

Garage apparently stripped hub and cleaned shoes, re-ground drum, and checked correct operation of EPB. Also, caliper was stripped and lube'd. I'm taking it back to them as clearly not fixed. Thanks to everyone for replies so far.
As you may have gathered, there is no EPB overheat sensor, or diagnostics to support that claim, does make you wonder hat else is a bit of billy Altox GSM FBH controller thread

I wondered this also, until I realised there isn't one
It could be bent slide pins. Seen this more than a few times. Caliper moves in and out OK. When unbolted, the pins slide freely, but when it is all bolted up tight, the pins are pulled squint, and stick My D3 Build Thread

Ok, so no overheat fault code?? Hmmm. The EPB had definitely seized on outside the garage when I parked it up with the hot discs ( yeah I know I should not have gone anywhere near the EPB with a hot brakes issue, but I flicked the blooming switch out of habit!) . Instantly realised my mistake, tried to release the thing and got chimes, flashing red brake warning on dash and "parking brake fault" caption. Maybe that was what showed up? As you can probably tell, I'm no expert

It's going to need the EPB shoes stripped off, and the levers on the rear of the shoes checked/freed off My D3 Build Thread

So, turned out to be a sticking caliper, as several of you guys suggested! Thanks for your help, and to Pete at Graham Goodyer for sorting it.
I spoken to soon yesterday, with no issues. took thing for a little run into Plymouth, got to my destination stinking hot OSR rear & smoke billowing from the hub.
Crawled back home, the juddering felt like the wheel was going to part company with moneypit!
I've just stripped it quickly as i'm about to disappear of to work for 3 days & wanted to try & leave the missus with a working car.
The brake caliper & sliders aren't seized, if i release the EPB is seems to drag at one point in rotation then free. If I turn it anti clockwise it seems free through the full rotation. I've not got time to strip & reassemble the PB now to find the problem, but any thought from my descripition?
I see mention of Sliders wearing / jamming? Is this an Job a reasonable DIY'er can do?
