OK struggling a bit here! Non start

Before I have my engine ecm tested I thought I'd run this pass you guys!

New engine fitted and won't start, turns won't fire. Will fire on easy start so not mechanical.

Scan ecm and get P0336 crank sensor performance, checked the wiring and is ok, getting the 5v reference voltage to sensor with ign on.

On live data there is no crank speed on cranking and the coolant temp and air temp both read -40 which I'm geussing is a default for open circuit.
Again checked for a reference 5v at coolant temp sensor and is present.

The pins on the transfer box module were corroded beyond repair so I have replaced the unit with a new one and as expected getting a warning as I have not coded the unit yet (hope my new Nanocom will?) but this shouldn't stop it from starting.

Replacement engine is Euro4 and I swapped all my pump etc so to keep all the engine electrics Euro3
Banging Head

I should add that I have fitted a new CKP sensor but still the same!

Sounds like the trigger wheel for the CKP is not doing its job...

That crossed my mind too but the other readings, or rather lack of them is throwing a spanner in the works so to speak!

Coolant temp, and air temp both sound like they are O/C for whatever reason, but the lack of a crank speed is where I would start.

Without a crank speed/reference, the PCM has no idea where it is in its stroke, and cannot sync the cam/crank timing, to enable it to start

Unless the signal wire back to the PCM is at fault. Easily checked with a multimeter though Thumbs Up
The new TCCM would not stop the car from starting, even without being programmed.

Never seen it before personally, but was the trigger wheel actually fitted to the end of the crank, before the engine fitted? I can't see why it would have been removed, but you never know Question

Yeah I know I'm delaying the inevitable Sad

Got hold of another piece of diagnostic kit today which is more manufacturer specific and not just EOBD, and that gives me a reading for the coolant temp etc and the only one it can't get a reading from is the CKP with new sensor.

The flexi plate was still attached and I can't imagine why someone would go to the trouble of taking the ring off and refitting the flexi plate, anyway it looks as though the g/box is coming off!

Istr you are supposed to fit a new ring when changing engine. Tolerance is quite tight.

Would imagine if the flywheel is still fitted, they would not have taken it off to remove the trigger wheel...

FWIW, I have never changed any trigger wheels on any replacement engines, and all have been fine.

I assume you have checked wiring continuity between the CKP and PCM?

Yes continuity between CKP and ECM on all three wires.

I have checked for 5v at CKP using the earth at sensor and OK, also tried connecting a multi meter between earth wire and signal wire as I believe you should see voltage fluctuation on cranking.....nothing Big Cry

Ordered a floor transmission jack off Amazon today!
