About to purchase D3 - thoughts appreciated

I've been the proud owner of a freelander for that past 6 years and have been considering stepping up to the D3 but apart from a week or so of research am totally in the dark.

A colleague of mine mentioned that his wife had been trying to sell her hi spec 2006 D3 HSE (25000k)'for a while as she was downsizing to a Porsche. She had been unable to sell it in time for delivery of the new vehicle which Is in about a weeks time and was offered 12k trade in price at the local landrover dealership in Glasgow.

He said that if I wanted, he'd let me have it for the same price as they were in a hurry to conclude.

I know the person in question and she drives it once a week to do the shopping so it has been well looked after. Well, hardly used ( about 2 k miles per year since she bought it at 10k miles).

It's absolutely immaculate and has had all of the servicing done at the dealership. I checked the paperwork and has had no issues (yet)

As a complete novice I would very much appreciate any thoughts on this. Even from a novice point if view it does sound like a good deal? I suppose I'm just looking for confirmation from the experts.

Many thanks

Paul in Scotland

Shocked for that money, I'll buy it!

Honestly, if you know the car and it's history for the price, that's a belting deal, especially at that mileage!

Hands should be bitten off Thumbs Up

It's often said that these cars like to be driven and not stand still as that can be just as detrimental as big miles (bushes perishing, bits seizing etc)

But saying that I'd still bite his hand off if it's genuine!

Has it got service history? Still needs doing despite miles and must have cambelt at 7 years or 105k Thumbs Up

You may have already got the impression that D3's of that age with so few miles are rare...

Well... they are ... so if it has a full service history & is as good as you say , it is a no brainer Thumbs Up

You would certainly be waiting a long time for another of similar spec / miles to come along Shocked
Not sure where she has been trying to sell it , but if she has posted it on here would be long gone Whistle
 Cheers Ian

Has it had the cam belts done, as its due for them? Expensive job if they haven't. Take it for a test drive and have a good listen for rumbling bearings and make sure everything works.

Otherwise, yes it's a good buy.

Many thanks for those who replied. It has certainly speeded up my decision. I'm taking delivery if the D3 tomorrow before anyone pinches it from beneath my nose !

Stooby, no the cam belts have not been done but I suppose I have factor this into the good price I'm paying. Have also taken out a warranty direct policy for what works out at around 30 quid a month. Apparently this covers most things including wear and tear ( not sure if cam belts are included, air suspension is not)

Will post pic when I get it. Very much looking forward to enjoying my new D3!

Good result. Thumbs Up You've upset a fair few peeps though. Laughing Laughing

Warranty is a good move (in my opinion, other opinions think it's a waste of money) but be aware that the wear & tear cover has a 90 day initial exclusion. This doesn't apply if the vehicle has come straight from a warranty. Worth bearing in mind. Thumbs Up
