Pre-Heater

Interestingly I was at the launch of the Range Rover Sport today. Under the bonnet of a 2.7TDV6 HSE there is no pre-heater. Could this be because LandRover cannot make the pre start/Pre-Heat work? The pre-heater on the Range Rover works OK according to one of the Dealer Technicians I was talking to!

Seems to really affect mpg. Is it needed in our temperate climate?

Update - it's taken almost a year but WDS 13 Patch 1 provides Discovery 3 revised Instrument Pack Software - which does change the settings menu to remove the Pre Heater and the Pre Cooler functions.

It also adds an i with a arrow pointing to the right in the info centre!

Be aware of this if you like the pre-heat/cool settings hack, and don't want to lose it.

Is there a list anywhere of what fixes are applied in different upgrades? I recently had my D3 into the workshop with about 10 minor faults (seat memory, mirror memory etc. etc.). The dealers 'seem' to have sorted the problem, and I obviously have not got pre-heat anymore (not that I knew what it was for anyway). I also have the little 'i>' icon now - what's that all about?

Just to clarify, WDS 13 can be applied in 'modules' this means that the heater can be fixed without installing the instrument pack (thereby keeping your pre-heater). I requested this of my garage and they were happy only to apply the needed modules.

This is how mine was done... dealer must have decided not to change my instrument pack SW as I had insisted they fix my lack of Settings Menu (which they did once LR agreed that parts were missing and would be supplied FOC).

Heater is far better now and don't really miss not having the little 'i' in the Message Centre.

Good to hear that your heater is better - Mine seems not much better and now i get fumes in the car from the FBH !!

Apparently some have complained about fumes an WDS13 has a fix to close the recirc air vent to prevent this. I have NEVER had any fumes until after the upgrade.
I start the car, the heater is fairly quiet and after a few minutes (say 1 mile) the fan increases speed and then I can smell the fumes for a while (set to 23degC. 3degC outside temp).
I cant say I feel snug at that temp setting either !
Oh well back to the drawing board !

mmm mine sits at 22 / 23 and full auto. comfy 90% of the time. Occasionally I get cool air from the vents when you would not expect it... but easily cured by a quick temp adjust. Also eventually put the temp down to 19 / 20 as it can get a tad warm... personal taste I think more than a heater problem.

Once car is running warm from a cold start the fans kick in and direction changes. I think this is for the FBH fumes issue. Closed until FBH has done its work.

Definitely different to before the SW upgrade.

Since the hevac system was updated on mine a couple of weeks ago, its been a revelation! much better heat.

Its been on 19 degrees all weekend in Salisbury, the o.a.t. was +1 degree yeaterday, and we were comfortable. Before the update it would have had to have been on 24 to warm the cabin, and it would have still blown cold from the face vents.

Now its warm from all vents. I would question whether your dealer has done the update properly.

I thought it only worked at 28 degrees, whenever the wife has been in the car it seems to automatically set itself at that level?

What Works, What Doesn't?

Hi Folks,

This is my first entry. I just bought a used TDV6 S, Jan 2005 on a 54 plate. Dealer (stratstone in Newport) told me that the pre-heater and dipping reverse mirrors worked and could be programmed. So I tried them and they didnt. Guess what, now they tell me (after I bought the car) that they can't and salesman - no longer with the company - got it wrong. Shocked Dealer says its just not an option on this spec of vehicle, but the menu is just there as standard?

I had a read through a number of threads, but can't seem to piece together a definitive answer?

I appreciate i could hand the vehicle back - possibly - but i just want to know what works, what can be made to work and what just will never work?

I really like the D3 - I've had Audi's for years which do what they say on the tin, but the Exmoor roads are not kind - so although with some trepidation, bought the D3 which i hoped would thrive in these conditions.

Also - whilst I am on, with the apparant lack of consistancy in dealers, any views on County Landrover in Barnstaple, or the Dealers in Taunton or Exeter - any of which could be my service dealer of choice

Just to add to that, once you've had the enhancement programme work done, the pre-heat option on the settings menu will disappear. Before you have that done, though, you can use the radio trick to make it operate - would be useful on Exmoor in the winter....
