Tow electrics - Trailer indicators flash when doors closed
on a number of occasions when I close one of the doors on the D4 - the indicators on my trailer flash !!
I first noticed this late last year when I built the Exped trailer. this had LEDs lights and I just assumed it was because of the LEDs requiring such a small about of current.
however, was checking the lights on the caravan yesterday and when the car door was shut the indicators flashed !
Ive checked it on the other trailer I have and it does the same ! - both caravan and trailer have normal lights/bulbs.
any ideas what is causing it ? - the lights on all the trailers work fine so it must be something on the D4 sending power down the indicator circuits when a door is closed. it seems to be more the shock of a door closing rather than actual physical closing.
also, it doesn't do it every time and does it whether the engine is running or the ignition off.
I'll get the dealer to check when it goes in for a service in a couple of months time, but in the meantime any ideas what would cause the problem ?
EDIT
meant to add that the D4 indicators do not flash - its just the trailersDuncan

The D4 uses a latching circuit to detect whether a trailer is attached or not. A single pulse is sent through the trailer indicator circuit when you open/close a door to set the state of the latch.

Yep, the D4 trailer wiring is not a straight repeat/splice off the normal exterior lighting wiring. It is effectively a different system driven by MOSFETs in the Body Control Module (part of the CJB).

LED trailers need a shunt pulse. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
