The Mother of all Group Buys!

Having recently looked at a second D3, I have been amazed to find that our dear sponsor has been finding things a little tough in competing with the on-line vehicle brokers Big Cry

Not wishing to purchase a D3 from via on-line source, I am wondering how many people here would consider buying a new Discovery from a proper franchised UK Land Rover Dealer at a group buy price Question

I reckon, if we get enough genuine interest, then we could be looking at substantial savings over that which we could source individually.

Please note your interest ONLY if you are seriously considering a new D3 before the end of March 2008.

The brokers supplying UK cars are just passing you through to a UK 'proper' main dealer but they won't take a p/ex. If they do it will be at rock bottom price. All of the dealers are on a level playing field, I got a price from a broker for a car with no p/ex and asked my 3 nearest dealers if they wanted to match it but they didn't. If our sponsor could match the broker price then I would happily buy my next one from him.

Which online brokers do you look at. the ones I use are;

Drivethedeal
broadspeed

If you know of any others then this would be appreciated.

A group buy for Cars may be challenging as most people do a deal on the cost to change the car. Rather than outright purchases. So the value of the Part Ex is nearly as important as the cost of the new car.

But good luck anyway

My thoughts entirely Thumbs Up The Motorlogix of this world are simply getting a fleet discount on the basis of a number of vehicles throughout the year from a single franchised dealer. There would be no point in doing this unless our sponsor could match such a deal, but I'm confident this could be negotiated. Whistle

Top idea John and if it comes off, you will be the group buy King, but unfortunaltely this will be about 6 months too early for me, or I would have been a definite to join in and see where it went.

Good luck big guy.

Been looking now to replace (60K miles so far) but decided to wait until nearer the 3 years is up in December. So looking for deals and decent finance options around Sep/Oct this year to order. Alternative is to purchase more warranty an risk an 80K D3 on the roads Neutral

Things seem to want to start clunking and bumping underneath so a bit dubious on suspension and steering component longevity.

Quite a few high mileage D3's are having racks, roll bar bushes, rod ends ball joints replaced... so at 80,000 plus miles, what else is going to fail and at what cost ?

Mine is effectively a 4-5 year old car mileage wise now.

Brokers:
Well, unfortunately I couldn't get a deal within my meagre budget from a local (or any within 100 miles) dealer, so I have just used a broker (needs must ) and surprisingly, the main dealer they put me in touch with gave the same price for my px as my local dealer.

I would still much rather support either my local dealer, or failing that, Lakeland Landrover, the site sponsors! If their vehicle sales and aftercare is anything like as good as the recent off road event event, I wouldn't hesitate to use them Thumbs Up .

High mileage D3's:
Whilst waiting for my new D3, I fitted my spare wheels/new tyres to the car (and punctured one in the lakes Crying or Very sad )
With the new tyres on, the car was transformed - back to smooth as silk. Then with all the accumulated junk, tool and recovery kit etc removed from the car, and a good clean, it also stopped rattling, and felt just like a new car again.

Mine had only done 54k miles, but I wouldn't have any hesitation in trusting the car to 3 or 4 times that mileage. The only thing that stopped me was the prospect of it's decline in value with mileage, though in reality that continuing loss is a lot less than the first 10 miles I put on the new car.

Back on topic... (at last!)
If only you'd thought of it sooner I'd definitely have been up for it. Cracking idea!
Sadly, I don't think I can change again for about another 3 years.
