When you said the bottom torx bolts could be tight, I didn't know you meant that tight!
I've had a 2 foot breaker bar on them and it just twists the splines on my torx bit.
Any ideas?

Thanks for the write up, I've got a condenser on order and the rear tubing has been blocked off. Hopefully soon I'll have a cold maker again.

Is it possible to fill the system with air to try and find a leak? What pressure would be needed?
I have an air compressor and was wondering whether its possible to use that?
I had the system refilled at a garage, but was empty again after a day or so
Thanks
Ade

Ade, I think that would only work for a fairly large leak, where you can hear the air coming out. That's what an air con chap did with mine, and charged me £40. For small leaks they put a dye in and look for it with a UV lamp.

Did my condenser a couple of days back, alternator failed so and felt it would be better to kill 2 birds with one stone, but for some reason only found your guide today.
Anyway, used a guide posted by one of the other forum members which was very useful but a bit fiddly. Your guide looks like I may have been left with more skin on your knuckles but its done now.

Ade, I would take it back to the garage.
A fully automatic machine will not fill a system that will not hold vacuum, so I would suspect they are just using a fill method which should be frowned upon as the R134a refrigerant is a green house gas.
Alternative pressure testing, as Mikey says, is with OFN - Oxygen Free Nitrogen, I would tend to look for someone who has invested in this extra bit of kit as they are taking it seriously rather than just making a quick buck from recharging.Paul Redding

Agree with steve, when i did my condensor took it to an air con place hooked up to a machine first it did a vacuum of the system to confirm no leaks for a set time, only then would the machine allow a fill. as ive said before many thanks to disco mikey for his write up, the job was not too hard to do,btw recharge was only £30 which i thought very fair considering the time of yeargone not forgotten 2 classics

I've got a mobile AC specialist coming out today to have a look at, so hoping he can give me a guide as to whats wrong.
Is it a fairly easy system to diagnose the problem?

Thanks Martin
Looking at the microcat there seems to be a seal on the condenser (part number DHE500110). Is this reusable from the old on being removed, or do you nee dot fit a new one?

WooooooHoooooooo
Got mine done with this guide! Legend. Moving that front panel over them location pins was nervy, but did it.
Only took 2 hours(ish) and a good chunk of that was looking for tool, picking the child up after falling off his bike and enjoying a drink/chat while working.
Also replaced the two o-rings...... Deffo needed as the pipe fitting were sloppy with old ones and not with the new
