Well, I've just renewed the D3 insurance, and tried Admiral this time, the Multicar looks very promising in our case
£216 for the D3
£268 for the A8
Both fully comp, business use, protected NCD, legal cover, personal injury, hire cars, driving other cars, plus 90 day green card.
Not bad, and for the record a saving of over £400 on the combined cost of renewing both. Call centre very helpful too, so a positive for Admiral so far.____

I was with Admiral, on a multicar with 5 cars. Initially they were very competitive, but on first renewal, I checked out the market place, and found that by individually insuring the vehicles with the best prices found, I saved about £500 over the price Admiral wanted. When I challenged them, they only offered me an additional £100 discount, So I left them.
For info, the best quote I got for the D4 was about £600 with Land Rover insurance. Admiral had it at over £900! The Defender I saved £100, my sons cars were about the same.
Pays to shop around. I'm happy this time but will definitely check again in 12 months.____

I think postcode is more relevant than age.
Admiral again, £210 fully comp, including 2 previous incidents (SWMBO).
I've had to claim on them a couple of times over the years, been relaively straight forward and they have paid out, though they do tend to take the mickey with the vehicle valuations. A stiff retort usually works.

OK thanks all, now I'm not feeling so smug... Anything under £200 seems a bargain.____

Just changed from multicar
I have just reinsured from Aviva to Direct Line £220 with cashback on this from Quidco. Multicar was a pain. I had three cars on the policy with tax, insurance and MOT closely aligned. A complete pain when changing the personalised reg. I sent a current MOT with a month on it but by the time they processed it (much longer now local offices send it on to Swansea), they deemed the MOT to be out of date.I was also in danger meanwhile of having the tax expire while being processed. My advice is to keep it all well apart.
I felt that multicar gave Aviva a chance to ramp up all the premiums at renewal. and three different insurers saved a fortune. However I encountered the latest insurance scam. You can have many years NCD but Aviva only count 5 years for declaring your NCD. Another way of encouraging you to stay as some insurers recognise much more.
