Auto box metal pan + filter replacement

Just fitted a auto gearbox metal pan + filter + bolts + gasket supplied by advanced motor factors ! cheers steve Thumbs Up

Took the rear gearbox mounting bolt off and jacked the box up to enable to get into to those Censored bolts , all came out ok with no hassle , swung the old old plastic sump to n/s and pulled down to snap the filter tube off

new separate filter & metal sump fitted and bolted up no problem

Next step is to megaflush the gearbox , I have designed a prototype ATF oil flushing set up and hopefully the parts I ordered for it will be here thursday

I have just done mine this week end including the flush and a tube of Dr trannys for good measure, I did not have to undo any cross members or engine mounts, I just snapped the oil feed pipe and then the sump came off easy.

Flushed through with new clean oil using my £7.99 8 ltr garden spray and an old water bottle from the cold drinks fountain to catch the old oil.
It only took me 3 hours all together as I changed all the diff and transfer oil at the same time. One thing I did notice was after a long trip some oil was leaking down the threads of the new bolts only on 3 of them so i removed them cleaned them up and filled the holes with gasket silicone and that fixed it, it is a lot smoother now..

I shall be ordering a metal pan when Steve has them back in stock. My oil is pretty dark and will need changing so I will be watching with great interest!

ZF are a most frustrating company to deal with, this pan conversion is very popular but they have no stock in the UK or Germany and are being a bit vague with delivery, I expect about two weeks. I do have the original type filter pans in stock still though.

Will post when fresh stocks arrive.

I am thinking of doing this as now approaching 100k miles, can some one explain the bit about snapping the Oil Feed Pipe and snapping the Filter off please.

Also looking at the youtube vid of a replacement on a Jag there is a set pattern for tightening the bolts, if this isnt followed it may cause a leak.
