Off-road wheel weight rating
I have just started having a look for a 2nd set of alloys with a view to putting on some ATR's which I can swap over when needed
There appear to be loads of FFRR alloys on a popular auction site, and very few genuine Discovery 4 alloys.Obviously that means a load rating of 925kg as opposed to the 940kg load rating for the D4
I would not put on the lower load rating for road use,but my question is.....is the load rating more or less important when it comes to off-road use ?"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

get 17 inch alloys and Cooper STTs 245/70R17s cheap hard core, high side wall and almost impossible to destroy
on practical sie of things I used my present 19s with MT/Rs and ATRs and now with Duratracs all over the place in all possible conditions with no slightest issue

I had 17's with cooper Discoverer S/T's for the D3.....unfortunately they didn't fit with the bigger brake discs of the D4 so I sold them....now looking for a spare set as I have the 20inch " Liberace " spec alloys and don't want to wreck them off road
There are a couple of possible options, and was just wondering if a reduced load rating was one of them.......purely for off-road purposes only "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

You say "purely for off-road purposes only" - presumably you are going to drive "on-road" getting to & from your off-roading, if so you need to consider the insurance implications of using what underwriters (or The Bill) might consider to be unsuitable wheels.
There are plenty of 18" wheels available - good luck.

none Electric or H2 fuel cell - yet.

Yes I had considered those implications...and there was a bit of "crossing that bridge when we come to it" involved...the best, and easiest route would still be to get D4 specific wheels, with the correct load rating...but they seem to be pretty expensive in comparison to similar, and more readily available FFRR alloys (I personally wouldn't consider going as low as the 900kg RRS ones) "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
