upper tailgate not unlocking
Mine decided it wouldnt unlock on Friday, so I've read the numerous posts on this topic, and mine looks like the switch is the problem, as by doing the double button push on the dash unlockled it, so the release cable must be OK. Can you get to the switch by removing the rubber, or does the handle have to be taken off to get to it??
Cheers

Pull the rubber boot off Al and do your best to clean the two metal parts of the switch.
It's a god damn awful design and is prone to rotting. Mods:

Yep, that sorted it, but I couldnt get the rubber boot back on, and also couldnt work out how the switch came out - whole f***g handle off (yep, trim out, catch off) just to find you still cant get at the plastic tabs that hold the relase switch in - grrrrrr.
I ended up breaking one of them off - now superglued back in.
Ah well - at least I can get in now

upper tail gate cable
Having read all the posts about breaking cables I thought I had better look at mine although I was not convinced anything would be wrong. everything was working perfectly normally.
So I half heartedly set about removing the trim etc. Good job I did.
As shown in the photo It wouldnt have lasted much longer.
For info mines a 56 plate on 60,000 miles.
Used the temporary fix, with a cut down allen key, although I think I'll just leave it in place as working fine.
