Gearbox oil change disco 3 2007 2.7 XS |
|
Apparently the automatic gearbox is a sealed for life box. If this is correct why are people changing the oil in it. I have been told by a landrover fitter, that there is also a very slight chance that you can disturb sediment that can create problems with the gearbox. He does not recommend flushing it. Can anyone give comments on this please.

The "sealed for life" description would appear to be at odds with ZF's recommendations

BMW were/are very keen on sealed for life as that means when your gearbox is dead they can sell you another one. perhaps they would qualify how long life is? Then pay out for all of the issues we have.
The trade is full of stories of transmissions failing shortly after an oil change but perhaps they don't mention that they only changed the oil to try to cure a problem rather than as routine service.
ZF approach is more sensible and they make the things in the first place. Change your oil and filter rather than just oil.
Sediment? it's too late anyway then perhaps? Paul Redding

Thanks for opinions chaps. I myself think the oil breaks down after a certain time and needs renewing. I am renewing all the oils this Friday

Before doing this I suggest you search the forum for "Megaflush".
You might decide it's for you.
