Tailgate prob not the usual
Can anyone help just replace my passenger side door lock actuator with ian g ace guide and all ok on that but immediately following finishing this my tailgate wont always release stripped it down expecting the usual broken cable issue but looks like its been replaced before with the newer version . If i pull the cable the lock mechanism moves but very slowly and the action of the actuator seems to get weaker wih each press . Ive wd40 the lock but still no joy any help appreciated can i have messed up the lock sync some how ?MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car

Well fellas an update its not the actuator usual bit snapped off and the microswitch is clean . Ive read all the threads and am thinking its a fault in the mechanism of the lock itself as the mechanism moves very slowly as if its sticky.or the spring release is weak . can anyone tell me what the microswitch on the lock itself is all about . is it just a position sensor and could this be faulty ?MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car

Open the tailgate, look at the top where the wires go into the boot via rubber grommets. Remove the rubber, wiggle the wires around, and try opening again.
I changed the whole tailgate handle before I discovered that this was my problem

Upper tailgate release problemn
Well still struggling with this i thought it was the lock mechanism so got a new one from TLO thanks nick but still no joy it dosent seem as tho the actuator is powerful enough to pull the cable a check with the multimeter shown 11/12 volts when you first press the release but this quickly drops awAy down to 2 volts or so ive checked and cleaned the microswitch but no signs of corrosion anyone had similar experience ?MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car

got new actuator and all now sorted
mine had weakened and wasnt always applying enough force to activate the lock latch and the new one is much more positive in its action
speaking to a LR techie at local hunters and once youve got the teilgate stripped he recommended replacing both the actuator and lock release mechanism ( this bit comes with the cable whose end typically snaps off ).
im kicking myself now as that thought had crossed my mind when i ordered just the latch previously MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car

Same problem with mine.
Also kicking myself after replacing cable and reassembling....wouldn't open again.....
Hopefully managed to link a video showing the difference, with old actuator at the top.....

Glade I found your post my tail gate has the same fault as you discribe. It also seems to lose voltage on the actuator after you press the button and only pulls weakly and then gets weaker with your next press. Can you tell me where you got the actuator fro and the cost if you don't mind. Shame I broken my handle micro switch trying to see if it was the problem before reading your thread
Cheers
