Variable height tow bar & bike rack |
|
I took delivery of my new 2007 Discovery HSE in January and was expecting to get the tow bar and bike rack accessories I had ordered with it. The dealer tells me that the tow bar is temorarily not available but can't tell me why or when it will be.
Can anyone shed any light on what the problem is and when it might be resolved?

Is there an alternative tow bar/bike rack arrnagment which can be installed to a D3. I've seen a number of the multi height installation and they really dont add much to the car at all in the way of aesthetics. I need a bike rack and it would appear from LR that the multi height unit is the only solution from them....unless you know differently. D3 HSE, Stornoway grey, 2007 MY, side steps, privacy glass, door protection strips.

As far as I understand as you will see in the thread Bodsy pointed too the first new multi-height tow bars with no issues will be available in April 2007.
Witter are completing their tests / production ready for April.
Likewise LR are sorting their issues to make a new one available.
I dont know of any other's available - other than making your own - however if you lose a 3.5 ton trailer on the motorway the insurance company and who it hit's ~ I guess will be less than impressed.
Strange but true a D3 has been on the market since Nov 04 and still no multi-height.

I decided against the Multiheight hwobar as I won't use itthat often & didn't want it perm installed. I was chosing the LR Bike Rack, but there are some great towbar mounted Bike racks from Thule (others available) whic if you do another search on the site seem to be very very robust and either the same or cheaper price than the limited LR bike Rack.
There are a couple of diehard mountainbikers on the site that can probably give you more detailed info.
In my view, if you are only getting the MultiHeight TB for the LR bike Rack (As I was going to do) then I'd say don't waste your money. Get a detachable towbar from e-bay for about £100 (instead of LR's £400) and an electrics kit from Nick at Yeovil for about £80, 1/2 hour to install the elctrics & a quick surf for the best Thule price on the web and then you're away!
