Side Panel Protection
Has anybody got or delved into the market of magnetic side protection plates?
The only place I could find is a site called Potec-magnet.com.
Any comments as to if these this are actually worth it and do they actually work.
Not sure if it's the same thing but ISTR something along those lines is available in France, search the site and something should come up as it's been mentioned beforeThe End
That is the same thing: http://www.protec-magnet.com/PMlandrover/landrover.html.
Looks like a great idea, but costs quite some money. But I *do* like the 'Daktari'-look 2006 Zermatt Silver TDV6 'SE' Auto, Mantec sump guard, Frontrunner roofrack, Lightforce 140s, split charge system and... a Jetboil.

I'm fairly sure my brother could do something like that. He wraps vehicles (like the sky vans and stuff). He could technically wrap magnetic sheets in base colours or arty designs. If people are interested then I will ask.
I'll pm Martin re-D3.co.uk designs and donations !!
Anyone interested, before I ask him for prices ?"To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Mmmm, interesting...
However, I note it says that they are only to be used off road. I guess this means they may not appreciate the wind drag at motorway speeds.
So you apply them when you get to the mud. Only by then you can be sure that there will be some dust on the side of the car. So the magnet will trap this dust and grind it into the paint as you drive...
I can imagine there is a lot of body flex driving over corrugations which will really grind the dirt into the paint.
It seems like a neat idea, but I can see it causing more damage than it saves. Or am I being paranoid?
Lots of vehicles are fitted with these all day long - driving schools, some emergency service vehicles etc. I had some rally decals on my mini. Magnets stuck like the proverbial to a blanket, I used to put a thin cotton sheet behind them if I thought the car was dusty. Worked a treat !"To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

My Dad and Brother run the Midlands leading vehicle wrapping company. He has now gone off investigating the potential to wrap magnetic removable panels, rather than the vehicle directly.
Once the base material is sorted we can work on a small number (like 2 to start with) designs. Plain, Disco3 Logo and a funky off road design, Mud, tyre tracks etc. . . .
Will keep you all updated, unless you start to see pics and posts from Chris - director or my Dad directly . . .
It' won't be an instant thing but we should be able to post designs and prices to gauge final interest soon. If demand is there, they will be available through the shop "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."
