Cambelt cost eye watering - any good indies in Herts/Essex |
|
Lookers Bishops stortford was pretty much £1000 for the 7yr 105k service, £846 for the belts and £150 for the waterpump (after reading a couple of the horror stories with sheared bolts)
Does anyone know a cheaper indie in the herts/essex area ? I've only had a car a few weeks

worth phoning around a few dealers, they can vary by hundreds within a very small range, even between those in the same chain.
Personally I didn't do the waterpump, if you do that then what else should you be doing? There are always going to be a few horrors, it is a LR forum! Joined the BMWX5 45e group

I always use LRS Engineering (01787 469553) but have never had a quote for a belt change. Would be worth a call, as i think they are reasonable.
Let us know how you get on!

If all else fails (can recommend Geoff too) this is probably too far (near Southend) but DS Automotive just did my 105k plus belts and a load of other stuff. Used to use them when I lived nearby and were good, started again with them as my local indie did his back in and was in a hurry
Fixed price servicing is on their website

Had mine done last year, best price I found was Taylors in Great Dunmow, came in nearly £100 lower than Lookers for service & belts.

Parts for the belt change (including the 2x idler pulley, and the aux belt AND the VAT) are only £150, for OEM parts...
Water pump is around £50, and takes 2 minutes to change once the front end is stripped down. Still don't see the point in replacing it, in 8 years, and over 50 cambelt swaps, I have never had one fail...

Had mine done at Stratstones for £599 for all belts and a service. It was an offer but worth phoning them to see if they will still do it.

Thanks all, finally got myself sorted. Used Paul at Broadfields in Takely, was arounf same price as DS auto but much closer! 105k Service, disc/pads/sensors OEM back and front for 875 notes all in. Car was picked up and returned to my house same day. Cracking service to this will be my new home to take care of the Disco. On the downside some ar5ehole stole our spare from under the car, they noticed that the winch was cut when doing the service. and 3 of for alloys are cracked

Before you replace your spare get one of Ray's Spare wheel protectors or you will find your new spare goes missing also. PM Ray AKA RLD for an up to date price and shipping Cheers Ian

Be careful with special offers for belt changes. Are they quoting for the full 105,000 mile/7 year service or just the belt change?
