Sometime ago someone posted that there was a TSB about the removable tow bar and issues with the spring associated with the green knob not being strong enough. The TSB refrenced this and from memory chassis numbers, can anyone remeber which TSB it was or can anyone find the thread please.

I cant remember there being a TSB, but there is a lot of issues with the removable bar developing too much play in it. TLO informed us that the removable towbar is now labeled only for "occasional light towing" or words to that effect.

When I use mine its for the full monty.....
If LR have downgraded the removable TB......surely they should have done a recall ?
How does this leave the user if the TB fails its not my fault it gets to a stage its not fit for purpose...it has to down to design / manufacturing or materials & the owner isnt involved in any of these....only the use.
If Liam from LR is reading this to me this is not just important - its safety critical BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

What the official advice says is this :
LSB 10 02 99 122 - OWNER’S HANDBOOK SUPPLEMENT 2013 wrote:
QUICK RELEASE TOW BALL FOR
RANGE ROVER SPORT, DISCOVERY
3 AND DISCOVERY 4
Applicability
This information is applicable to all model
years for the following vehicles:
• Range Rover Sport - All models.
• Discovery 3 - All models.
• Discovery 4 - All models.
1. Vehicle mounted receiver.
2. Quick release tow ball.
The tow ball unit locks into the vehicle
mounting when required for towing.
This quick release tow ball should be used only
for nose loads up to a maximum of 150Kg
(330lb).
ESSENTIAL TOWING CHECKS
• DO NOT exceed the revised nose weight
limit of 150kg (330lb).
• When the quick release tow ball is not
required for immediate use, it should be
removed and stowed in the appropriate
place.
HEAVY DUTY MULTI-HEIGHT TOW
BAR SYSTEM
If there is a requirement for towing with a
greater nose weight, for example, commercial
or constant use towing, Land Rover
Accessories have available a suitable tow bar
system.

Thats not what TLO told us about. He mentioned that on the boxes of new towbars, the removable one was now only labelled for "occasional light towing" or words to that effect.

Well I don't want to tread on toes ..but the advice above was taken from TOPIx today and features as a supplement in the handbook Aside from the doc you have linked to there are no other docs that I can find on there. Maybe Nick can clarify. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Yes agreed B16 but that's not the same as "occasional light towing" which suggests that the weight of the trailer is a factor. Leisure use in my eyes means towing a caravan and or trailers say a dozen times per year. The fact is that the removable bar is still certified for the maximum weights permitted.
EDIT Nick got in before me 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
