"Only normal ride height available" |
|
Started to get this message along with amber triangle on my MY11 D4 GS.
Seems intermittent at the moment and clears if car is switched off and then re-started. Car seems to drive ok.
Called LRA and engineer arrived to check for error codes. He said no codes stored so could not do any more - needs to go to dealer.
Anyone got any ideas ?
Am panicking slightly as we are going touring in Scotland next week and missus will go mental if it goes up.
Cheers
Chris

Compressor? Have you been off road in it? Might have dinged the compressor although, I'd expect that to show up a fault code? Have you got a fault code reader that can clear faults. It may be, as you say, just a glitch. Also try a hard reset if you think it could be a software fault and there is no visible damage to the compressor. IF[u] [u]these don't work, then it might be a dealer issue. Is it still under warranty btw? I see it's a MY11 model. You might just be within the warranty period?
Please let us know how you get on?

Just had the same on my 03/11 D4. Pretty crap service from the dealer as 'no fault stored' from them, even having supplied photo's of it showing on the dash. Also when I attended the dealership with the fault showing all I got was 'you should call lra assistance' l was at the dealers for feck sake !! No one would even come out to look at the car ! I even suggested they look at the tsb regarding the rubbish hitachi compressor being at fault and the amk to be fitted.
Anyway, again the fault showed itself so l stormed down the dealer, had a bit of a forthright exchange of views with the receptionist, got the service manager involved and the techie looked at the car and lo and behold a fault stored this time. So 2hrs later new uprated compressor fitted and what a difference.
The tsb is on here somewhere so perhaps a visit armed with that might help you (although my dealer completely ignored it)
Good luck

Thanks very much for the replies gentlemen.
Steve - Don't think I dinged the compressor but in the recent snowdrifts round here, you never know !
Since its got 15 months warranty left, I am taking it to the dealer on Weds. Will post the outcome.
Keith - Did a bit of searching for the tsb and I think its LTB00420v2 or LTB00452v2. Got this info from TOPix
But since I don't have a subscription, I don't know what they say.
I am not sure what type of compressor is fitted to my car, build date 8/6/2011.
Out of interest, when you got the error message, did you try pressing the ride height button to see if anything happened ?. I did and just got a sort of "bonging" noise.
Anyway, thanks for the info and I will cetainly mention your experience to my dealer.
Cheers
Chris

Chris, when I had the yellow triangle the ride height button was unlit and inoperative.
I am sure somewhere on here is the details of the vin no's and build dates of the possible affected vehicles, I have had a quick look and can't locate it but l will keep looking.
Good luck.

Result !! New compressor and software update done today.''''.
Thanks again Keith. Mentioned TSB and VIN numbers and the service guy said yes that's correct but LR will only
change compressors if there is a fault. In other words it is not done as a recall. Not sure how this works if your warranty has expired though.
Anyway I am well pleased.

Hmmm, this all sounds familiar. I've been merrily driving along a few times and all of a sudden get the yellow triangle and a message of 'Normal height etc etc'. No options or movement available if I press the suspension button. A switch off, switch on and it clears itself.
So will something be logged in the ECU for retrieval later, does it get logged but cleared somehow, or does nothing get logged?
I'm in a MY11 2010 car and still under warranty so is this something that a dealer can have a crack at? Dr Rick

Hi Dr Rick
Not sure about fault codes being logged. LRA bloke said no codes stored.
I didn't quiz the dealer as I was in a rush to get to Scotland. Presumably since there was a tsb
regarding this problem they just changed it anyway.
KJS's post showing tsb number and VIN numbers on cars affected should identify if your car is included.
Best of luck

So we're booked in for a fix on Wednesday next week. Need a courtesy car due to children movements required. Despite having the TSB number, Pentland wouldn't review against my VIN number which they have recorded from previous work. So I'm not sure whether I fall into the affected range despite knowing that I'm in a MY11 car.
We'll see. The warning did come on 3 times on Saturday so its getting daft now. Dr Rick

Not sure if it would help, but l would try and photograph the fault on the dash showing the mileage and date - it may help. My dealer just sort of said 'oh yes' and didn't take a blind bit of notice of it !!

Mines be doing the same for the last month, if I raise or lower the suspension, revert to normal height, within the next mile I'll get the orange triangle with the message, "Normal Height Only Available" stop, count to ten, restart, all ok till the next time I alter the suspension. It's booked in for Monday, was told its more than likely a sensor fault, when suggested it could be the compressor, i was shot down, "no won't be that, never had to change a compressor". They just don't fill you with confidence at the Dealers.

I will know the answer Monday, but I expect they will only look on Monday, then order the compressor and I will have to book it in again to get it done. Don't they realise that you buy it for your own use and not for them to keep inviting it back in again.
