Much closer to home, the Princess Victoria sank on 31 January 1953 (60 years ago on Thursday) with the loss of 133 lives when seas overwhelmed the rear doors. Although the captain tried to run before the weather, the ship could not go fast enough. This was crossing to Ireland from Stranraer. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill.
