Engine Fault & breakdown - Update

Hi all,

Was just driving down the M5 when the engine fault light came on, the car went into limp mode and then cut out. The car wouldn't restart & is just being put on the recovery truck.

Not a great start to disco ownership, only had the car 2 weeks!

Any ideas what may have caused it? It's a 2005 55 2.7 Hse.

It also came up with special programmes off if that helps, which I have also had occasionally when first starting in the morning when below say -2, I've had the battery checked & recharged the other day.

Thanks in advance

Sounds a bit like the old favourite, brake pedal switch fault. Thumbs Up

Was it newly serviced before you got it?

Maybe a non OEM fuel filter?

Hope its one of these two simple ones!!

Thumbs Up

Hi the special prog off is only due to low battery volts when cranking
To go in limp mode then cut out it must thing some thing major is wrong eg low or high pressure fuel fault
When did it last have a fuel filter changed ??
Really need to get the fault codes read first.
Then every one can help u further

You will be relieved to hear its likely to be a simple thing rather than the major engine failure your probably experiencing. Mine had that and it was put down o a blocked fuel filter. Good luck! Thumbs Up

Thanks for the quick responses guys, just been dropped off at home.

It had the 105k service just before I got it by a 4x4 specialist, had fuel filter done on that.

Will get it down the garage tomorrow, does anyone know a good Indy in Taunton or within 10 miles? Other wise will have to send it to Taunton LR.

I had this happen in Scotland 2 years ago in December Confused

Turned out to be no fuel feeding to injector rail, cause was a broken wire at the rear on the OS front wheel arch connector plug, 2 min fix, which LR in Edinburgh charged me a cool £299 + VAT Shocked

Excuse for charge was time it took to diagnose the fault Sad

The car was dropped in the dealer earlier, I'm hoping its not anything too major & the warranty will cover it!

Well, had a call from the dealer today, they think its the fuel pump in the tank that's at fault but can't be 100% sure until they've taken the tank out.

Would the diagnostics show if this was faulty?

To be honest it sounds like typical LR Dealership, keep swopping pats ntil we find something that works. I can't see why they can not test the in tank pump without taking the tank out.

Warranty as you've only had the car a couple of weeks, or private sale?

The warranty has agreed £814 and the dealer has been pretty good & agreed to pay the difference and sort the other few issues I've found.

I just couldn't believe the price, the labour was only £200 of that!

And to make things better, they managed to break my glove box!

My first call tomorrow will be to warranty Direct I think, have been offered a price of 699 for the extra care with no betterment, MOT cover and Airbags & emissions, does that sound a fair price?
