Thanks for the reply Colin, very helpful as always - except the last item, re SD card stuff, when I click on the link it takes me to the forum but I get an "access denied" message the rest of the forum is OK for access.
Hungry for more - yes of course But I can wait a little more
Edit forgot to add; Where can I get the "Nav on Move software" file ?Clive

Whilst I wait for my Nanocom forum account to be set up, can someone help with the firmware upgrade?
I've downloaded the files and run the upgrade utility. When I connect my device to my PC and launch the Kernel Upgrade option on my device, the screen just goes blank and the software doesn't change from "Device not attached..."
Are you using a usb hub if so connect direct to the USB port and try this, when i did mine on my desktop it failed so i then tried my laptop and works everytime.

I thought that might be the case so went straight into my laptop but it just doesn't seem to recognise the device is connected.
It's my company laptop so not sure if there is a funny setting somewhere stopping it working - going to try on my PC later today.
Thanks,
Gareth.

Tried it on my main PC - same thing. It's as if there is an issue with either the USB socket or the USB cable. I'm trying to find another cable to try...

Got there in the end...
The instructions tell you to plug it in and hit the "Kernel Upgrade" button on the main screen when you first plug the device in - this didn't work for me.
Instead, I went to Navicom Diagnostics and found the Kernel Upgrade option in Setup which did work (hopefully - the firmware programming is running whilst I type this.)
Not sure why mine behaves differently but not losing too much sleep over it

It's not running differently, the bail instructions don't point you to the need to go into the Kernel upgrade bit but the online user manual does when you click on the Mk2 picture (I had the same problem!)Mark

@ Crwoody
The SD card thread had the wrong permissions set which was quickly sorted as you see
You will know that this file set is no longer listed and the file set no longer supplied by LR with their SDD system.
As the flash file sets provided by Genesis are based of what the SDD system provides, of course this file set is missing on there too.
I did however state
Quote:
Of course we are taking steps to ensure that owners of our equipment, including the new nanocom Evolution can still do this upgrade.
And of course gave someone the job of making sure this was sorted.
However somehow in the mad panic to get this ready for release, somehow it got overlooked
Anyway it is sorted now and i am assured it is now present on Genesis

I guess it must be good then

But I can wait a little more
well actually i was not joking about the couple of more hours and a new software upgrade has already been uploaded on the nanocom-diagnostics.com web site
Sadly, there were some last minute bugs that meant we could not include some of the EAS utilities, but then there is always next week etc.
In reality we are only just getting started with this and expect to be almost constantly adding more stuff as time goes by.
With all the various firmwares and version numbers of each that the unit has, it can seem confusing to some as to which version they are using
a helpful tip for
@ wizbongre
I can't explain why your unit was not being recognized when you put it into kernal upgrade mode using the button on the usual 4 button start screen that is invoked when connected and powered via USB, clearly the screen was turning off when you selected the button on the touch screen, showing that the unit was entering the mode.
But as you have discovered, we have long since put a huge amount of thought and effort into this equipment and it's upgrading process and have built in multiple redundant options. So not only have we provided two ways to put it into Kernal upgrade mode via it's software but also a special hardware method too, as detailed in the Upgrading help file for those that read this
This is because the software updater performs a dual role in that not only is it used in it's normal role to upgrade the Nanocom Evolution with newer versions of the software, but in the rare case it may be required, it can also be used to totally reprogram and so recover a corrupted unit, even one so badly corrupted that there are no graphics or menus and otherwise appears to be totally dead
You will notice on the updater that you have an option to "overwrite target config"
The target being the Nanocom and the Config being the configuration files that are unique to your unit. If you select this, absolutely everything is replaced, including your units unique configuration and unlock codes file with default ones. We provide this option just in case these files got corrupted. Of course if you used this you would then have to re enter your unlock code(s)
If you dont, then as you see from the listing made during the upgrading process the config files are pre read and replaced back as they were during the upgrading process.
A top tip for anyone confused by all the various firmware versions the unit has and wanting to know if they are running the latest version etc.
We created a Global version number that is actually the release date of the upgrade.
You can see this when the unit boots or you can check it via the nanocom utilities menu.

Colin
Can I just say a very large thank you to you and your team, the support is utterly fantastic both on here and your own forum, this must be a very hectic time for you and your team with the obvious amount of enthusiasm for those of us who have purchased this marvellous unit.
I hope you have a well deserved rest at Christmas, you surely deserve it! Nick

Many thanks for your kind comments of appreciation and support of our efforts Ambo.
Things are indeed ridiculously hectic and indeed really stressful here right now as we are trying to introduce and deliver a diagnostic system that is well above and beyond anything else that has gone before in its price range.
But me and Chris have been pretty amazed at how well the BBS team we jointly manage has pulled together in this trying time and are also equally impressed at the degree of patience and understanding that those investing in one of these, that really means investing and believing in us, have shown.
The least we can do is provide decent and proper support.
There is but one week left now before we break for Chistmas and we do traditionally have quite a mega party here on our last day and Christmas is typically the only time we can take a break and a rest.
But already many staff members are wanting and asking to come in during the christmas break
The adaptive reset function for autobox and others is not yet complete and will be in a future release.
Bummer, this was going to be the FIRST THING I do when I receive my Nano Evo. Hopefully this will be added before your Christmas break as I too will be on break and hope to accomplish many programming changes during this time.1998 Discovery LSE - Gold, 249,000+ miles, completely stock

My nanocom has now landed in the uk so wont be long now

Still Mrs thumb is insisting when my nanocom arrives it is going stright under the crimbo tree & it will stay there UNTILL the 25th.

As of 00:01 on the 25th,
Is the registration & access to the nanocom forum / Genesis site fully automated with all info needed supplied with the unit or will BBS need to activate such after the crimbo break. RRSport MY12hse but don't hold that against lill o me
