cheers stew i do hope it is something simple like injector washers

the noise is very faint and does not do it all the time but only after a flying reset due to SPO but will continue until another reset so i presume whatever caused SPO is also causing the knock/rattle but whatever it is is cleared by doing a full reset (wait till asleep )

I'm having similar symptoms esf on special programs off and sluggish pulling away til reaching higher revs. I've got Geoff popping over tomorrow to check fault codes. I'm expecting the worst cft but really hoping it's something more simple and less costly. Will keep you guys posted on what faults come up.

I've had Geoff out this morning to check codes and sure enough a turbo boost fault is showing. So after checking hoses for possible splits etc Geoff pointed his finger of blame to the turbo. As the realisation of a major expence began to hit me Geoff whipped off the heat shield in front of the turbo to check the actuator which didn't want to move. Whilst trying to persuade the actuator to move with the use of a screwdriver and wd40 I was looking on with that feeling of why me and why now and a bad mood was looming. All of a sudden lady luck looked down on us and we had some movement. With a generous amount of wd sprayed on Geoff started her up and gave her a bit of welly. To my suprise esf had gone and the actuator is moving as it should, took it out for a test and all running sweet. Fingers and toes are crossed now that it stays this way as it may just be a temporary fix.

you lucky lucky man
what i would sugest is some high temp grease on there to keep it free and maybe take off the exhaust and clean the inside with mr muscle oven cleaner

which heat sheild did geoff remove to get to the actuator ?was it the one by the wheel or the one on the turbo itself ?
sounds like it was not too hard and somthing i may be able to try at the weekend

So far so good just been out again and all still running perfectly. It was the heat shield in the wheel arch easy to get too and from there you can just see the actuator. If all stays ok I will repeat the wd40 treatment periodically.

Bow down

thanks mr chainsaw
i have been out this evening and took off the heat sheild got swmbo to cycle the key and saw that although moving the actuator rod did not have full movement and was sticky/jerkey
splathered it with wd40 and got swmbo to cycle ignition a few more times and it got better but still not right so i bent a bit of wire and fed it in and hooked it round the rod to pull it up and with my other hand pushed down on the rod with a screw driver moving it back and forth many times

now although much better it is still not perfect and is a little stiff at the far ends of its travel so at the weekend weather permiting i intend to remove the exhaust and mr muscle the inside to try clean that side of the job

been for a spin and no SPO and i tried very hard to get it to throw a thromby but could not so its defo done some good

Thumbs Up

I have experienced loss of power and got the "special programs off" on the infoscreen several times. And it seems to be coming more often now. Something is getting worse.
Today i was looking for the turbo actuators so i could check if they were moving freely, but it was not as easy as i thought when reading this post earlier. I would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction. And a picture would be great Very Happy

Unfortunately not got a pic but this may help.Remove heatshield from inside front left wheelarch, and with someone turning ignition on you should just about see the actuator move (hopefully) spray area with wd40 or similar lubricant and if not moving in and out freely try pushing it with a screwdriver or better still a looped piece of fencing wire so you can push and pull until it moves freely. Its a bit fiddly to get too but if it cures your problem as it did mine its well worth doing   you will need a torch as it is difficult to see but hopefully you should see some movement as the ignition is turned on. Good luck Thumbs Up

Thanks. I did do that today (removed heatshield in the left wheelarch. It was 3 pieces and almost impossible to get out?) But i was not sure what i was looking for. I did see what looked like an arm with a rod from the end of it. It was impossible to reach with my hand. But it did not move at all when the ignition was turned on, this might be my problem. But sadly i was not sure so i screwed it back together without doing anything Embarassed
But if i`m right, the only thing i see is the actuator arm. Is it the arm that is stuck?
I will try to spray it and get it moving tomorrow.

I keep getting pm,s about this but I cannot really elaborate on what I have already said

How I did it
Disco in off road height
Remove the heat shield in passenger wheel arch its held on with 3 nuts but only the 2 on the left need removed completely as there is a slot in the heat shield for the right hand 1
This is where it gets tricky you need to identify the rod it's quite far back and you won't be able to get your hand to it
From what you can see it looks a bit like a ball bearing that moves kind of down and slightly back (resting position is near the top of travel ) it will go out of sight as it moves down
Once identified mine moved a bit with the cycle of the ignition so it helped an assistant is handy to cycle ignition as you will miss some movement running round the car and getting back in position
Spray with plenty of wd 40 or other similar product
I used a long flat screwdriver to push on the rod but it did not return so I got some stiff fence wire (coat hanger strength ) and made a hook on the end I pushed this in and around the rod bellow the ball bearing looking part and pulled it back up then this bit was trick but I got hold of the screwdriver and wire in the sane hand and started to push and pull time and time again stopping to spray a little lube every now and then
This imidiatly cured the problem but it was still a little stiff at 1 end of its travel so I repeated the processs at the weekend and then sprayed on some copper slip aerosol stuff
I picked copper slip for its heigh temp properties
And that's it
Many months later and its still fine I did the Decat a few weeks ago and checked the rod while I was on and it still moves fine and the copper slip is still there
On a side note I recommend the Decat especially for the manual the turbo seems to spool up so much quicker and slightly lower revs not sure how noticeable it will be on an auto

Anyway if anyone has any pics it may help this thread but as it was a cold dark winters night kneeling in snow when I first did mine I just wanted to get on with the job and did not take any

I`m not sure if i have located the actuator. I have tried to take a picture and put a red cirkle around what i think can be it.
It looks like a plastic arm. There is a rod from the bottom of the arm, which goes forward and out of sight. This arm does not move at all when turning the ignition on. Which way is it suposed to move? Forward i would think?

If you pushed it in with a screwdriver and pulled it out again with a wire, then i think this is not it and i have to take another look Confused But am i looking in the right place?
