Car : Discovery 3
Variant : SE
Registered : Mar '05
Built : 2005
Software Version :Unknown
I have both options appearing in my menu, the pre-cool definately works without the 'radio trick' and does a luvly job!!. Am going to Scotland next week so might get the opportunity to test the pre-heat, although unlikely.
How do I identify the software version I am running?

Without giving us all the last four digits of your VIN, perhaps you would provide that info? This would be very useful. Have you had the cabin pre-heat working too? (I realise that it may not have been cold enough for you to have tried this, though there were some cold days in March)
Personally, I don't think it is a software issue, but a power issue - though it may be software that is blocking the power in some way I guess. Either way, it is power related.

Hi Everyone,
was very concious of the storm I seemed to have started and began to worry this afternoon that I had done something wrong so have been and checked and I am absolutely sure that the pre-cool function is working. My VIN minus last 4 digits is as follows
SALLAAA175A31****
no-one has replied about how to identify software version am happy to provide that if someone can advise on the process to obtain.
Again for the avoidance of doubt I am not using the radio trick. I set the time and it does the rest.

Winger, your thoughts are almost confirmed by my source and Webasto.

Apparently the 1 after the last A indicates that it should be a V8 according to: http://www.clifton.nl/index.html?calvin.html 2004 Discovery 3 - gone

Afraid not, it is most definately a TDV6 2.7 unless ofcourse it is a multi fuel engine

Here's how to read your VIN:
SAL = Land Rover UK
LA = D3
A = Standard
A = 4 Door Standard
Next Digit = 1, 4 or 5 (1 Diesel, 4 4.0, 5 4.4)
Next Digit = 3,4,7 or 8 (3 RHD auto, 4 LHD auto, 7 RHD man, 8 LHD man)
Next Digit = 5,6,7 etc (2005, 2006, 2007 etc Model Year)
A = Made in Solihull
Final six digits = unique vehicle number, ascending
Now SALLAAA175A is a RHD TDV6 Manual, and what is much more interesting is that 31**** is pretty certainly not a vehicle manufactured in March. Take look at the lower tailgate; lift the bit that slides up when you close it and see if there is a sticker there with a date on it.......
The plot, therefore, thickens.
PM me the full VIN Graeme.

OK. For those of you that want to get the pre-heat/cool working, the answer is very definitely in keeping the IHU from going into standby.
I got mine to work today without the radio being on. It can be done. The system kicked into life because the IHU was still "awake".
I am now going to focus entirely on this, as I am now completely convinced that this is the key. It may well be that the sleep time can be overriden or turned off altogether, but I am not there yet!

Dom,
Enjoy the power of the V8 you have and reap the rewards of the diesel like fuel consumption...
Anyway... Young Slimer wanted us to NOT trash this thread so I'll stop now as I have to settings menu so therefore cannot join in.

Just been out and tried mine.
I set the pre-cool option and when I came back to the vehicle it had worked, it switched off as soon as I put the key in the ignition.
I have set the pre-heat function and that does appear to go through the correct process but I will have to wait for a cooler day to try it out fully.
My cars details are as follows:
Variant : HSE
Registered : 24/12/04
VIN : SALLAAA135A31****
: 2005 model
Main CPU Software/Bootloader : 0140/0023
Main CPU Software : LR-HLDF-V085-2004_06_22
Sub CPU Software : LR-HLDF-16LX-v037-2004_04_30-BL14
Let you know more when I can test the pre-heater out fully.
