Ok, bought the battery...and it has 12.3v out of the box. The guy at ECP says that this is normal, that I should just plug it in and use it. I've connected it up to the optimate for an overnight charge, and will check the open voltage tomorrow morning (after taking it off charge and letting it settle down). If it's not 12.6v or more, I'll be returning it...

Yes and at £77.35 with the UKPAS discount and free delivery I don't think it can be beaten - a tank of diesel costs more!

Update:

Charged the battery up overnight using my Optimate (actually it's 0.8A, so very slow trickle charge), came off the charger showing 12.8v. Swapped it in and so far so good! Interestingly the car still shows as having 12-12.2v with the ignition on, and 13.8-14.2v with the engine running (measured inside the car at the lighter socket, and using the IIDTool display). I guess that's normal then Smile. However, the old battery never went up above 12.3v measured at the terminals when the car was off, the new one shows 12.8v.

The old battery had corrosion all over the negative terminal (not really visible until I started to undo the connector) which I cleaned off before connecting the new battery. When the old one was taken off the car and completely unloaded, it shows 12.5v, so perhaps it's not actually in too bad a condition, maybe the corrosion was causing it to read low. I'll put it on the optimate for while, see if it brings it back up to scratch. Perhaps I should put it in as an Auxiliary battery! (I saw a space for one under the bonnet, does the car come with wiring etc for it?).

Have some minor symptons and checked my battery this morning:

* Car asleep battery reads 12.5V
* Ignition on and all electronics on 11.87V
* Car running 14.5V

Seems about right to me?
