headlights just failed on the motorway...help!

Hi all
Just had my dipped beam pack up on the motorway...car (2005 D3) is now sitting in the airport carpark.....but how do I fix it...

The side lights and main Beam are working.
There is no dash warning.
I don't have any spare fuses - I had a look and they are little micro fuses...not the standard blade ones... I can rob one from a lesser needed circuit to get me home .....but is it a fuse issue?

Any thoughts and ideas welcome as I have to go home in the dark....

Thanks all[/i]

Check the fuses to see if they have blown, thought they had diffrent fuse for each side but may be wrong.

Thanks....I thought they may have been separate ...but could be on one I guess...
Both went at the same time and side and full beam work...so must be on a separate fuse.... I assume under the bonnet beside the battery?

Are they Halogen? I know this sounds bizarre but I had both bulbs on mine blow at exactly the same moment this week, must of been a surge or something, bulbs replaced and all is now good. So might not be a fuse?

Have you tried swapping an H7 from main beam to dip - they are the same on the D4?
Thumbs Up

ISTR there were a couple of verheating switch issues on some of the earlier light swithes. Not common, but a few instances of it. Could be just replace the switch and all fine.

Thanks all.
I'm not back until Thursday night.....have a torch and a multi-tool in the glove box.... but no spare fuses....I used to carry lots of them in my Defender....but will needed to order up some for the Disco....

Will try swapping the fuses and look for a spare in the glove box fuse box.

Can you advise where the relays are...in the fuse box beside the battery or under the dash....

I just need to get some lights to get me home... not got any spare bulbs....another lesson ....lots around for the Defender....but none for the D3....are they h7?

Thanks

Graham, I must say to begin with I never had any problems what so ever! Embarassed Embarassed

There was thread a week or so ago that spoke about blowing headlamp bulbs, remember it did have Xenons, although if as the post suggests you need a higher power to strike them then this could be the problem, its strange that the car they went onto worked with no problems without dioing anything.

http://www.disco4.com/forum/topic86317.htm...headlights

I would have thought it incredibly strange for them both to go at the same time, however as has been pointed out above it is obviously possible so worth trying a swap initially with at least one bulb.

Hope all goes well Thumbs Up

I've had both bulbs blow at the same time on several cars I've owned over the years.
Last time it happened I was driving home (in town fortunately) thinking why the hell are my lights so dim, couldn't believe that they had synchronized to fail at the same time. Crying or Very sad

Replaced bulbs and all fine. Very Happy

Three questions.......
What fuse type do I need ... I know its not a standard blade......but is it a mini blade or a super mini blade?
What amp size do I need
Which fuse do I pull number wise....

Thanks all
