Steering Coupling Replacement

Hi all

Is replacing a steering coupling on a LR D3 (55 plate) something we can do ourselves (hubby has restored many an old car) or does the car need to be hooked up to the computer to stop the dashboard lighting up after replacement?

Thanks for any guidance you can give

KJ

It is fairly straightforward, if a little tight for access.
Make sure you lock the steering wheel by leaving the ign key out before you start, making sure the bolts are in an accessable position.
The shaft itself can only fit in one place, so the wheel should be in the same place when finished.

Great - thanks for that. So I am guessing nothing will happen computer wise?

as long as the steering wheel & road wheels are kept in the same position while the shaft is off, no computer needed. i.e. so the steering wheel is not half a turn out when refitted!

Which in turn links to this guide:

Replaced the lower column on the driveway a couple of weeks ago. It took me longer to recover the blxxdy bolt that i dropped from the top connection than it took to fit the shaft its self!!

Then I dropped the bottom bolt into the engine undershield and had to recover that as well.......

(felt particularly stupid as one of the posts on here warned that this could happen. Embarassed)

Easy DIY prospect in my opinion. Thumbs Up
