Anti-roll bar question

I'm a member for some time but this is my first post on this forum and I didn't introduce myself. Embarassed Embarassed
This all because I'm not an owner, but very interested. I'm from Belgium (sorry for my English) and D2 owner. Very happy with my D2 but if the occasion comes I want to switch to a D3.
I'm quite sure of the setup and version but on one important item I don't find a clear answer: D3 and anti-roll stability, has the D3 active anti-roll bars or just plain steel ones? My 2000 td5 D2 has the ACE (active cornering enhancement) system and I'm happy with the on- and offroad handling of the D2. I've read that the D3 is a better drivers car and I can believe that. I'm sure it's better off-road, I raised my D2 but the diffs are to close to earth, that problem will be solved with the D3, certainly with a lift (adjustable rods).
I also read that a D3 will roll more in fast corners as a ACE'ed D2, is that true?
I also read that there is an optional stability package available on the D3, is that so or is it part of the terrain response system?

My D3 has active cornering enhancement this is done using the air suspension struts Ecus and solenoids!
The anti roll bars are fixed to the body and the suspension and are just steel bars as far as I know

Are you sure Albert?
I asked the same question a few moons back and was told there is no ace on the D3 as the air system is not quick enough to react to cornering.. Wink

Not wishing to doubt what you say, but the air goes to the air bags (springs) and the struts run down the middle of the air bags and are pretty much you're usual strut .

I've had a d2 with ace and it was pretty hard to get it to lean on corners compared to the d3's Erm .... Lean.

The D3 do's not have ACE, it has got esp, having owned both there is no comparison between the two, the suspension on the D3 is far superior to the D2 with ace, no putting your teeth back in after hitting a rut when cornering, with very little body roll.
Raising the body with adjustable sensor rods will not give you more clearance under the diffs, it will only lift the body which IMHO is easier with an IID diag. tool which also gives full diagnostics facilities, but that is not necessary as there is an off road setting on all D3's that will lift the body at the touch of a switch, even then if you get grounded it will automatically lift higher into extended mode.

I had a D2 with ACE and it was good but only marginally better than piloting a boat which was the experience of driving a normal D2 Wink The overall suspension package on the D3 is far superior. There's dynamic suspension which constantly monitors and maintains as well as all the other E numbers to boot. The system can react quickly enough as the ASCM will either react to or inhibit instantly and if you throw it fast into a roundabout you will (or should) feel all the gizmos coming together to stop you from expiring. Smile

AFAIK the D3 self leveling is disabled over a particular threshold so is not active in cornering.
D3 handles better than the D2 due to independent suspension st up and decent ARBs.
Off road the air suspension pushes the hanging wheel down to try to find ground so overcomes the effect of the ARBs.

Thumbs Up It inhibits air suspension changes when it detects 0.2G lateral by locking the the valve blocks Smile

Thanks for the answers, I learned some interesting things.
Here a small summary of what I understood, correct me if I'm wrong:

- No extra anti-roll option is available on the D3, when I find a D3 with TRS (2 peddles and a turning knop in front of the central arm rest) I have the D3 top of the bill suspension setup.
- Anti-roll is only done using traditional ARB's and the air suspension, but air is not stiff like the hydraulic ACE so it'll probably roll a little more then my ACE'd D2. But that's not a big deal I should stop chasing the Audi's and BMW's in that fast long corner entering my village anyway the Disco's are not made for that and the BMW owners don't like me doing that .... Whistle (but I like seeing their faces afterwards)
- What I didn't understand (M3DPO) is that when you have a D3 with independent suspension the ground clearance doesn't grow when you lift the body, I thought the diff's are lifted too because you don't have a solid axle.
- A good tip I'll remember is to lift the D3 I should better go for IID Diag (DA6425) not for adjustable rods.

If you do not need the diagnostic capabilities you can also purchase the EASControl. Same height functions as the IIDTool and fault read/clear on the EAS only.

I think the DA6425 is the EASControl, isn't it?
I didn't find the min and max setting of the height, can someone tell me to which + or - mm the height can be adapted?

Since I could test drive my own D3 now I can confirm a D3 rolls more than an ACE'ed D2. But as mentioned above, that's no big deal, the overall handling is much better than a D2.
 2017-...: Disco II Td5 auto, 1999, BAS remap, HD TC and auto box Ashcroft, Allisport IC, ACE, 2" lift only coils, BF goodrich KM2 265/70R17, FF front and rear bumper, TF steering guard and tree sliders, nanocom.
2013-2017: Disco 3 TDV6 HSE aut. of 2008, Britpart treesliders, IIDTool, RLD sump guard, BFG KM2 265/70R17, adj. rods, BAS remap + EGRs blanked, silicon IC hoses.
2010-2013: Disco II Td5 of 2000, ACE, front Bearmach HD coils, rear SLS, GG AT2
