Sluggish acceleration ?
Hi all,
my 2005 TDV6 HSE on 109k has developed a very worrying fault ! On a cold start up she runs very rough and if I put the accelerator down in neutral, she wont rev immediatly, instead the rev's catch up with my foot to the floor very slowly. She drives but if I pull out of a turning with my foot down, she snails along and then acceleration kicks in. On the open road I can get her up to speed (eventually) but if I try to accelerate from say 40 to 50 I have to leave my foot on the accelerator floor count to 5 then all of a sudden the acceleration will kick in ?
Does this sound like Engine trouble ? Any ideas ?
Thanks
Richard

Many thanks Flack, do either of these senarious mean an expensive repair ?
If its your egr's then look in the wiki at the top of the page this will explain how you can do the blanking of the egr's yourself and how to get the blanks, allow yourself a couple of hours to do the blanking.
As for the turbo actuator rod again search on here plenty of posts on the subject, if your lucky and its just your actuator rod that is seized and you can free it off then another cheap fix..
But I would say its your egr's that have failed unless when you stick your foot down and there is loads of black smoke coming out from the exhaust..

It does sound like EGR as Flack has said, which is a cheap DIY job on a 05 to make the problem go away forever.
Fingers crossed it is the EGRs but on a 05 I would blank them come what may. One of mine failed just as the wife was pulling onto a motorway and the truck suddenly looked very big in her mirrors...Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Many thanks all, no black smoke, so sounds like the egr then, have tried to find how to get hold of a blanking plate and also a step by step guide to fitting it but can't seem to find it although I'm sure it there somewhere ! Could someone possibly send me the link on 1. how to get the blank, 2. how to fit it please.

Sluggish performance
I used to have a giant snail that i used for racing. Many people would sand down the shells to improve speed. I thought i would go one better and remove the shell for max speed.but if anything it seems more sluggish
Oh yeah egr seems likelyIt is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

just to throw in a curve ball......could also be a knackered MAF sensor, easily sorted for £100 and a simple 5 min job for any non tech person.
I only say this coz that's what happened to mine after its second replacement engine
worth following the cleaning instructions and see if that helps, if not then more or less confirms the egr's are at fault

Wow, I bought an EGR blanking kit on ebay yesterday for £10 ! It was local so picked up the kit yesterday pm. Sun was shining this morning so downloaded the instrctions and followed them to the letter, Brilliant Instructions ! I had to pop down the local Auto spares as I needed a renche extender ( £6) for the 8mm bolts which were a nightmare to to get to, to get out and to replace, but the tip about stuffing a rag down the side of each valve saved my life on a number of occations, very fidley !
Cleaned the MAF sensor as well which was very sooty before I started on the blanking but this did'nt seem to make any difference.
Put it all back and what a difference she has a new lease of life
